Blake Manor Nursing Home was founded in 1981 and since then has expanded to offer residential, convalescent and daycare to its large client base in Galway and Clare. Blake Manor Nursing Home is owned by Aideen and Justin Scanlon. The building has been completely refurbished, extended and architecturally designed with a view to maximising the space and light while preserving the heritage of the building. Part of the HIQA standards relates to the facility, particularly the amount of space available for the residents. Blake Manor by far exceeds all requirements set out by these standards. Our Manager, Carol Russell RGN, has many years of experience managing nursing homes in the UK and in Ireland. Despite huge advances in the level of services provided in nursing homes, many people remain unconvinced that nursing homes are the right option for themselves or their loved ones. Aideen believes that the nursing home is there for when it’s needed. A Nursing Home stay doesn’t have to be a full time thing. In fact some of our clients use our facilities as a means for relaxation and recharge the batteries, visiting for a week or two or even a weekend. Being pampered and waited on before returning home. This also gives a chance for carers and family’s to recharge. Aideen invites people to come and have a look around, meet the team and get a feel for the place. When people come, they realise how different we are to every other nursing home. We view the nursing home as people’s home; they just have the added benefit of a medical team for support. Huge congratulations to Teena Mammen our nurse who recently graduated from the Royal College of Surgeons. She completed a Postgrad on Gerontological Nursing. We are all very proud of her and delighted to have supported her through her training. This specialised training will be a great benefit to our team and clients.
