Before & After - I'm better at taking pictures for owners than social media. This is a horse from yesterday. His most primary issue creating fascial changes was his bladder. This was impacting the posture of his pelvis, his sternum and his lower back. There were other issues but this was his primary. Post treatment we can see how he's able to stand more under himself, engaging his stay apparatus. His core his lifted, his neck elongated and his eye softer. He will start on nettles ro ease urinary discomfort and receive a follow up in 6 weeks.

Two of my smaller clients crashed out post treatment. One scratches and the other has had a few issues which have not been concluded by numerous vet visits. Owners decided to opt for additional complimentary therapies to get to the bottom of their dogs issues. Upon first assessment I always recommend reading the book "The Forever Dog" collaborative and written by two vets. Much of what translates to symptoms starts way back with diet and gut health. Sound familiar. It should because it's highly significant for horses and humans too 😁

Imperfect Action...

Having started the season lightly by staying at Elementary, last Sunday at the show in Greenogue, we did an Elem test and also stepped back up to Medium. Even though I'm a long way off feeling strong in sitting trot, Hallie took one for the team and did 2 very nice fluent tests with 68+% for 5th in the Elem and 65+% for 2nd in the Medium πŸ₯ˆ
(I also remembered both tests! And I won't lie, I'm totally convinced Eque-Focus helped with that πŸ™ˆπŸ˜…)

With thanks to Louise O'Brien Photography]], I was able to look back on some photos and while I can see my weaknesses*** I'm very happy with Hallie's frame and the expression in her paces that she now shows on a regular basis - & -
Thank you! πŸ˜‰

Because of the heat, Paige and Mum stayed home so it was just Hallie and I on the road and I know I say it so often but Hallie IS an AngelπŸ˜‡ Zero stress and just a very fun afternoon... feeling very spoiled to have such an easy going horse at this pivotal time of my life πŸ₯°

***As I write this, I realise that I mention my weaknesses yet here is a photo that doesn't make them obviousπŸ€”
Remember Instagram is a highlight reel πŸ™‹πŸ»β€β™€οΈπŸ€¦πŸ»β€β™€οΈ
With that in mind... I am going to go back to Louise O'Brien Photography]] and purchase a photo which shows what I mean when I say I'm a long way off where I need to be "strength-wise" and share it with you.
In time, I will look back on it and be proud of the times that weren't perfect but we did it anyway πŸ’ͺ🏻πŸ’ͺ🏻πŸ’ͺ🏻

Stay Sound ✌🏻

Love this, so true and I most certainly have a "problem child" in the stable. But he continues to teach me each and every day with his never ending patience πŸ’šπŸ¦„

I heard a great quote the other day that I've been thinking a lot about lately. "The most honest person in the room is the problem child".

When it comes to horses, they are naturally designed to be good liars. From a prey perspective, they're supposed to lie to predators about their physical and mental weaknesses, because their very survival depends upon it.

"Good" horses are good liars. They're stoic about physical ailments, they tolerate mistakes, and they can perform their duties without needing to be heard by their human handler, or requiring a lot of skill from a rider. These are horses we value a lot in our equestrian society, and they're great for many reasons.

Problem horses are very bad liars. They cannot just go on with life when they are hurt, or upset, or feeling like their needs are not acknowledged or met.

They either find somebody who understands that, or they are sent to a trainer who's main job is to teach them to learn to SUPPRESS this urge to constantly communicate their emotions and needs, effectively becoming better liars. Some horses can learn this, but the ones that cannot are labelled permanent problems, and often find themselves shuffled around.

But what happens if we begin to value communication over compliance? What if we prioritize the relationship before our egos, and trust before our human goals?

We can all agree that we would prefer to be in a meaningful human relationship that ivalues empathy to a different perspective/reality. Why wouldn't we consciously cultivate the same relationships with our equine partners? Would that not be beneficial for everyone?

The next time you find yourself making a binary judgement about your horse's behavior, pause for a moment instead and consider the root cause of it. What are they trying to communicate? How can you help meet their needs and build trust instead of prioritizing your ego in that moment and demanding compliance because you've arbitrarily decided you deserve it?

A short but educational blog on soy in horse feed by Sharon Bronsveld of The Horse Therapist. I'm often heard discussing soy with clients. It is very hard in this day and age to access non genetically modified soy for horses. GM / GMO is a highly sprayed, toxic and inflammatory product. It is cheap and consequently included in horse feed as a form of protein. If you do not know what protein source your horse is eating do your due diligence and check the back of the bag under "typical composition". There is always a better source and your horse will thank you for it.
