The shoulder is a very complex structure and it's the most flexible joint in the body. It features four joints and numerous muscles (approximately 17 major muscles are directly involved in shoulder movement and stability), ligaments, and tendons that work together. This intricate design allows for a huge range of motion but comes at the cost of stability, making it prone to injury and instability. The complexity arises from the delicate balance between its need for mobility and the muscular and ligamentous systems that keep it stable.
This video is amazing in showing the function and how muscles, ligaments and tendons work together to facilitate movement.
So appreciate your shoulders and look after them. If there is restriction or pain with movement and stretching does not help, it's worth getting it looked at and treated, before it becomes a major, chronic issue!
