So, this is how I am dealing with all things coronavirus at the moment:
1. I check in every day with Dr. John Campbell on YouTube. He gives a calm, balanced, and honest assessment of where things are globally with Covid-19.
2. I listen to one news bulletin, usually the SIX ONE on RTE. If anything else dramatic happens, somebody will let me know, I can be assured of that.
3. I have stopped listening to all radio chat shows and phone-ins. They are only anxiety inducing for me and therefore, draining. My preferred radio choices at the moment are the UK's Classic FM and RTE's Lyric FM.
4. I read the online newspapers occasionally, usually over my first coffee of the day, and maybe last thing at night. I avoid all the tabloids as they just whip up anxiety in me. The UK Guardian is excellent as it also reflects my left of centre social democratic views and values.
5. I have set a daily schedule. I intend to do one physical task each day (cleaning, sorting, clearing); one admin task (life admin, assignment marking, work admin); and one leisure task/activity (walk, drive, watch a movie/TV programme). These three tasks will be punctuated with some reading.
6. I am going to have a dedicated sit-down coffee (15/20 mins) with Mairead, my wonderful wife and companion, during which we will reminisce about things past, and plan for exciting years to come. Of course, Emily and Luke are more than welcome to join us for this spot.
Keep well everybody, and take care of yourselves, and of your minds!
