There have now been 243,911 confirmed cases of COVID-19 in Ireland (gov.ie, 19th April 2021).

For some people, coronavirus (COVID-19) can cause symptoms that last weeks or months after the infection has gone. This is sometimes called post-COVID-19 syndrome or "long COVID".

Common long COVID symptoms include:

-extreme tiredness (fatigue)
-shortness of breath
-chest pain or tightness
-problems with memory and concentration ("brain fog")
-difficulty sleeping (insomnia)
-heart palpitations
-dizziness
-pins and needles
-joint pain
-depression and anxiety
-tinnitus, earaches
-rashes

If you had COVID 19 and have any/some of these symptoms, then you may have long COVID. If symptoms persist beyond 4 weeks since diagnosis, you may want to discuss with your GP or sooner if you feel it is required.

Living with COPD (chronic obstructive pulmonary disease) is characterised by brrathlessness, chronic cough and/or chest infections.

There are many people undiagnosed in Ireland. If you are affected by the above symptoms, pop along to your GP and start the discussion.

Diagnosis is usually made by spirometry, which is a simple breathing test done by your physiotherapist, respiratory nurse or GP.
