Where Does the Lymph Go After Drainage?

From Puff to Flush—Your Body’s Hidden Detox Highway!

Hey Lymphies!
Ever wondered what actually happens to the lymph after your MLD (Manual Lymphatic Drainage) or dry brushing session? Where does all that puffiness and extra fluid go? Let’s take a journey through your body’s magical drainage map—because the flow doesn’t stop at your skin!

First Things First—What IS Lymph?

Lymph is a clear-ish fluid filled with:
• Water
• Proteins
• Cellular waste
• Immune cells
• Bacteria, viruses, and toxins

It’s like your body’s wastewater, and your lymphatic system is the plumbing network designed to collect it from your tissues and send it packing!

The Drainage Route (The Fun Part!)

After you stimulate your lymphatic system (through MLD, exercise, rebounding, or infrared saunas), here’s what happens step-by-step:

1. Tissues → Lymph Capillaries
Lymph fluid is collected from between your cells (where waste builds up). Think of this as your body picking up trash from every neighborhood.

2. Lymph Capillaries → Collecting Vessels
These vessels have valves to push lymph forward (like a one-way street!). They move it toward central lymph nodes.

3. Nodes → Filter Party!
Lymph passes through lymph nodes, where it gets filtered. Immune cells here attack bacteria, viruses, and debris.
It’s like your lymph goes through a security checkpoint!

4. Cleaned Lymph → Ducts
Filtered lymph travels to the thoracic duct (left side of your neck) or right lymphatic duct—the final stop before exiting!

5. Ducts → Subclavian Vein
Here’s the magic moment!
The ducts drain the lymph directly into your bloodstream, at the base of your neck, where the subclavian vein lives.

6. Bloodstream → Kidneys + Liver
Now the filtered lymph becomes part of your circulating blood. From here:
• Kidneys filter out water-soluble waste → p*e it out!
• Liver handles fat-soluble toxins and waste → p**p it out!

And voilà!
Your lymph just became waste… and left your body.
Flush complete!

That’s Why You Might Notice…
• More p*eing after a session
• Increased bowel movements
• Feeling thirsty
• Fatigue (your body is processing the detox!)
• Reduced swelling or puffiness

So YES—you’re not imagining it. The flush is real.

Fun Lymphie Facts:
• You have 500–700 lymph nodes in your body!
• The thoracic duct drains around 75% of your lymph!
• Your lymphatic system can move 1.5–3 liters of lymph per day with the right support!
• No heart? No pump! The lymph system depends on movement, breath, and pressure (that’s why you NEED to move!).

Support the Flush:
• Hydrate (lymph is mostly water!)
• Move daily (walking, rebounding, stretching)
• Breathe deep (diaphragmatic breathing helps move lymph!)
• Massage & MLD
• Eat clean (to reduce toxin load)

So, Where Does It Go?

In simple terms:
Lymph → Blood → Kidneys/Liver → Toilet!
Your body is brilliant. And your lymphatic system? Even more so.

So the next time you finish your session and head to the loo—give a little thanks to the silent flow keeping you well.

Good Morning

This testimonial details a middle-aged lady's journey living with Lipoedema (Stage 3: Type III). After years of struggling, she describes Deep Oscillation Therapy (DOT) as a "major breakthrough" that "supercharged" her lymphatic system. The integration of DOT, alongside diet and MLD, led to positive impacts, including further weight loss, increased energy, lowered oedema, and enhanced lightness in her limbs. She reports that these positive changes lasted longer than MLD alone.

Wishing everyone the best outcome for their leaving certificate results today. As the post below says, results aren’t the end of the world. Your path is there for you.

Many students are awaiting important examination results tomorrow. I always post some advice each year. It is a very unsettling time for them. There will be celebrations but also tears. Some students will get a passport to the course of their dreams and others will experience immense disappointment. Here are some truths and advice on how to handle matters after the exam results are received:

1. After having been totally obsessed with exams for nearly two years, when students get to college, no one will be asking about them. Life moves on very quickly. It’s important not to become obsessed by the results (good or bad).

2. It's an overrated process in any format. Many people achieve great results but fail to find their feet in life. There are so many more important aspects to our lives than exam results.

3. Often, people who fail to get the points they wanted still pursue their careers of choice. The road might be a bit longer, but there is a back door into everything. I know loads of people who recorded very disappointing results and still planned a successful route to the job qualification that they wanted. Seek advice from a guidance counsellor when the dust settles.

4. Life is full of challenges, and you need to become better at managing them. These exams represent one of the challenges that you will face. There is no student, no human being, who can avoid disappointments or setbacks. They are part of living.

5. You may have coped better than you thought you would and are happier than you thought you would be. Take this as a lesson and never underestimate yourself or worry excessively again!

6. There will always be people who are more successful than you. Some people find it easier to motivate themselves by their very nature. Others are very organised and disciplined. Often, students receive extra help because their parents can afford it. There are also very lucky students who left themselves very limited with their revision plan but struck gold by sheer good fortune. Suitable questions turned up on the paper.
For these reasons, it’s important not to build your own self-esteem or self-worth by comparing yourself to others.

7. Be a well-wisher and never let envy complicate your approach. Congratulate others and wish them happiness. You will find happiness too. In fact, you may have so many treasures in your life that you take for granted.

8. Leave yourself open to good advice. Some people have more life experience than you. Don’t panic. When we are emotionally distressed, that’s when we tend to make the worst decisions. It is never too late to make the right decision. Consult and be open-minded.

9. Being healthy and truly happy in life is not dependent on academic results but on much deeper traits and spiritual connections.

10. If you have faith, pray for strength and wisdom and surround yourself with the people who love you unconditionally.

Feel free to share this post.

Lipoedema is a chronic condition involving an abnormal accumulation of fat, primarily in the legs and sometimes the arms. It mostly affects women and can be mistaken for obesity or lymphoedema. Here are the key symptoms of lipoedema, although it's important to note that not everyone with lipoedema experiences every symptom:

🟣Disproportionate Fat Distribution
💜Fat is concentrated in the hips, thighs, buttocks, and legs (sometimes arms), but spares the hands and feet.
💜Upper body may remain smaller despite lower body enlargement.

🟣Symmetrical Appearance
💜The fat distribution is usually symmetrical (same on both sides). Conditions such as lymphoedema can present with one side of the body large than the other. This tends not to be the case with lipoedema.

🟣Pain and Tenderness
💜Affected areas are often painful to touch, and people may feel heaviness or aching in the limbs.
💜Bruising occurs easily, even with light pressure or minor trauma.

🟣Skin Texture
💜The skin may feel soft and doughy, and can become nodular or lumpy over time.

🟣Limited Weight Loss Response
💜The fat deposits do not reduce significantly with diet or exercise.

If you suspect you may suffer from lipoedema, head to our website for more information.
