Early Spring Gathering Foraging Experience (March 14th Rathmullan Event, March 21st Gartan Event.
Celebrate the arrival of spring with a guided coastal foraging experience hosted by Eco Atlantic Adventures in collaboration with Julieanne of Gathering Goodness. This Early Spring Gathering is designed to reconnect participants with the landscape at a time when nature begins to reawaken, offering a fresh, educational, and immersive introduction to seasonal wild foods.
Taking place in March, this event focuses on some of the most vibrant and flavourful plants of early spring. Participants will learn how to confidently identify and responsibly harvest in-season wild. Each plant plays a unique role in the seasonal ecosystem, and Julieanne brings both depth of knowledge and practical experience to every stage of the walk.
With a professional yet approachable teaching style, Julieanne will guide attendees through clear identification techniques, highlighting key characteristics, lookalike species, habitat preferences, and ethical harvesting practices. Emphasis is placed on sustainable foraging, understanding how much to take, how to avoid damaging root systems, and how to ensure these wild resources remain abundant for future seasons.
Beyond identification, participants will gain insight into the Historical, Traditional, Medicinal, Culinary and Nutritional value of each plant. Learn how wild plants can transform simple dishes, how some plants offer a peppery note to salads, and how others deliver a distinctive citrus flavour. Practical guidance will also be shared on how to store, preserve, and prepare your finds to maintain freshness and flavour.
The setting enhances the experience, with coastal and hedgerow landscapes providing a rich and diverse foraging ground. As with all Eco Atlantic Adventures events, environmental stewardship is central. The group size is kept small to minimise impact, and Leave No Trace principles are upheld throughout.
