Donegal Centre for Independent Living

Donegal Centre for Independent Living Our main aim is to empower and enable people with disabilities to achieve Independent Living, choice and control over their lives.

The Donegal Centre for Independent Living (DCIL) is an organisation of and for people with physical and sensory disabilities, established in Donegal in 1999. The Donegal Centre for Independent Living is an organisation of people with disabilities who seek to empower and enable people with disabilities to enhance their quality of life, to assist them in achieving independent living and, to assist them in participating in social and economic life. We people with disabilities, seek to gain our rightful place in society and to have the same access to all life’s opportunities, which are afforded to our non-disabled counterparts. We in the Donegal Centre for Independent Living believe that this can be achieved through the removal of the many physical, social and psychological barriers, which currently exist in our society. We also wish to see people with disabilities have a greater input into all local developments. Our national guiding philosophy is summed up as “Nothing about us, without us".

DCIL was delighted to have a stand at the Donegal Giving launch event in the An Grianán Theatre, Letterkenny yesterday.

It was an excellent event, bringing together a real mix of businesses, non-profits, young people, and professionals - all sharing their experiences and insights on how to build a culture of giving in Donegal.

When we talk about giving, it’s not just about money - it’s about sharing our time, experience, life skills, and opportunities with others.

A huge well done to everyone involved in making this such a positive and inspiring event.
Here’s to many more Donegal Giving events in the future! 💛💚

Did you know that Ireland has one of the lowest employment rates for disabled people in the EU?

It’s time to change the story — by breaking down barriers, supporting inclusion, and creating equal opportunities for all.

The new National Human Rights for Disabled People Strategy highlights the importance of employment as a key to equality, dignity, and independence.

It focuses on:
- Better recruitment and access in the civil & public sector
- Grants and supports in the private sector
- Tailored jobseeker support to remove barriers
- A 2030 goal: breaking down accessibility and attitude barriers so opportunities truly fit the individual

Together, we can create a workforce where everyone belongs.
