Useful advice for asthma patients

Asthma flare-ups at Christmas can be linked to indoor air quality.

Remember:
🚭 Smoke and v**e fumes are powerful asthma triggers
🕯 Real candles can release harmful chemicals into the air
🌬 Poor ventilation allows irritants to build up indoors

To protect your lungs:
✅ Ask others not to smoke or v**e near you
✅ Choose LED candles instead of real ones
✅ Open windows when cooking or when a room feels stuffy

Flu is hitting our patients hard fast and earlier this year . This is being reported nationally and numbers have doubled in the last 2 weeks . We don’t have enough hospital beds so get the flu vaccine , especially if you are vulnerable or have close contact with someone vulnerable . It’s free ! Just ask .
Antibiotics don’t work for the flu and treatment is rest , hydration with oral fluids and over the counter medicine for aches and pains . Visit undertheweather.ie SOME people may need medical attention and consider reaching out if you are sick with it , have underlying respiratory issues , are markedly short of breath , can’t hydrate or are immunocompromised or obese. Our doctors and Advanced Nurse Practitioners will be running extra out of hours clinics in the surgery to help . More details to follow .Please be patient as they are already working long days .

Fantastic to have this service launched for 16-18 year olds. The first such service nationally . Well done Sarah, Eugene, Caroline and Mairead along with Dr Mitchie and Dr McGilloway and their teams . Donegal leading the way !! Starting off in Inishowen and coming to the Letterkenny sector hopefully very soon .
