Getting a cancer diagnosis: devastating.
Going through treatment: relentless.

But the part no one really talks about?
The part where you’re left with scars - physically and emotionally.

It breaks my heart when I have clients tell me how tight, sore, and restricted they feel in their chest or shoulder.
How they were never warned that pain could linger for so long after surgery and after radiotherapy.

You are not alone in this.
And you don’t have to stay stuck in this phase of recovery.

If you're dealing with:
🔹 Pain or pulling around your scar
🔹 Rigid or irregular scar tissue
🔹 Sensitivity or nerve pain
🔹 Tightness through the chest or arm
🔹 Visible asymmetry or changes that bother you

I can help.

Through my specialist training in oncology scar therapy alongside my work as a women’s health physio, I can help you to release scar restrictions, ease pain and sensitivity, and improve movement and symmetry.

This part of your recovery matters.
And you deserve support here, too. 💗

Share with someone who needs to know that there is rehab support available.

👀 You’ve just had major abdominal surgery *and yet* most mums are sent home with barely a whisper of advice about how to look after their scar.

If your scar is healed, closed, and not infected, silicone can be an incredibly powerful tool to support soft, smooth, pain-free healing.

🤷‍♀️ But knowing when to start, what brand to use, and how to use it properly makes all the difference.

Swipe through for what silicone does, how to use Scarban (my top recommended brand), and bonus tips that I share with my clients all the time in Down Below Physio clinic.

Over lunch with friends recently, I mentioned that I’m a fully trained antenatal and postnatal Pilates instructor — and one or two of them were genuinely surprised. It made me realise: this is a part of my story that many people don’t know. I know it, but I forget that other people don't know! 😅

🤗 So it's nice to share a bit more about me and the person behind the brand you see and the account you follow 👋👋

📸 This pic was taken in my old clinic room, back with my old branding and logos. When I first started my business, I used to teach Pilates classes in the evenings, after full days working with clients. I put my heart and soul into it — not just because I loved teaching, but because I needed it myself.

💥🙈 I’m hypermobile. My joints can get clicky, sore, unstable. I’ve had to work hard to build true, deep core strength and not just “for the abs”, but for protection, for support, and for keeping pain at bay.

🧘‍♀️ Pilates taught me to see the body differently. Not as separate parts, but as a whole system, deeply connected.

And it’s still a huge part of how I work now, even if I’m not in a studio teaching classes anymore.

😃🎉 Whether it’s pelvic health physio or scar therapy, this lens shapes everything I do. I still light up when I see those changes in people: more strength, more ease, more freedom.

That passion for functional movement, alignment, and whole-body integration? It’s still very much alive.

❓️Are you hypermobile?
❓️Do you do Pilates?
❓️Did you find it helpful during pregnancy or postnatal?

Comment below — I’d genuinely love to hear your thoughts. 💬💁‍♀️

🩷 Oncology & Breast Scar Therapy available in Donegal

Scars from cancer treatment - whether after surgery, reconstruction, or radiotherapy - can often feel tight, painful, numb, or restrictive. They may also change the way your body moves or feels, long after treatment has ended.

I’m delighted to offer specialist Oncology Scar Therapy here at Down Below Physio, using a gentle combination of hands-on scar mobilisation and a personalised home care plan with guidance on scar massage and appropriate product support.

This can also be supplemented as needed by LymphaTouch Therapy — a highly effective negative pressure and mechanical vibration therapy to improve scar mobility, comfort, and appearance.

This service can support recovery from:
✔️ Radiotherapy treatment & skin changes
✔️ Breast cancer surgery (lumpectomy, mastectomy, reconstruction)
✔️ Scars that feel painful, tight, sensitive, firm, or tethered
✔️ Cosmetic changes like puckering or irregularities

Scar therapy can also help with donor site scars (such as from graft or reconstruction areas), and with cording that may develop post-surgery.

Most importantly — treatment is gentle, comfortable, and designed to support both physical recovery and emotional healing. 🫶

🩷 If you or someone you love is living with scarring after cancer treatment, please know this specialist service is available right here in Donegal.

❓️❓️Can I bring baby to my appointment?

This is a question I’m often asked - sometimes at booking stage, sometimes last minute if a babysitter or childminder has let someone down.

The answer is: yes, absolutely. I’m always happy for postnatal mums to bring their little ones along. 💕 I understand how tricky it can be to arrange care, and the most important thing is that you can still access the support you need.

If baby needs to be soothed, fed, or changed during the session, we can work around that 💯

That said, I do encourage mums to come on their own if possible - simply because it allows you completely undistracted time to focus on yourself, which is often so needed. If baby is settled, we can get through everything as planned. But if baby is unsettled, it can sometimes be a little distracting from the session.

👉 So essentially, if bringing baby is what makes the difference between you being able to come or not, please do come and bring them. I’m more than happy to see their cute little faces in the clinic, and we’ll always make the appointment work around them. ☺️🩷💙

Yes, there are weights for down there 👀😲

In clinic, I often start with what you might consider "traditional" pelvic floor exercises and they are so valuable for building the foundations: knowing how to contract fully, relax fully, and feel really connected to this area of your body.
💪💪 But once you’ve got that base, vaginal weights can be a brilliant way to progress.

✅️ They can also help if you're just starting off to help you feel your muscles working in lying through the feedback you get from the weight.
✅️ Or they can load your pelvic floor later on in gravitationally loaded positions such as standing and walking.
🤫 And BONUS: they’re especially handy for busy mums who struggle to squeeze in (pun intended!) their kegels.

There’s more than one way to strength train your pelvic floor. But do get advice first, as the right brand, weight, and strategy can make all the difference.

🙋‍♀️👋 Come see me if you're not sure if they're right for you and you want a "down below" check.

WHEN I PUT ON THIS BADGE…

… I honour the journey someone has already faced through cancer treatment and recovery.

… I appreciate the courage it takes to reach out for help with something so personal.

… I understand there will be both good days and hard days, and that every step matters.

… I carry the responsibility to provide safe, skilled, high-quality care.

… I hope to bring comfort, relief, and even a little hope where fear and stress have lived for too long.

… I want to help people feel reconnected with their body — and themselves — again.

… I see this therapy as a chance to support someone in the final stages of recovery, helping them step back into life feeling more whole.

This badge is more than a symbol — it represents trust, healing, and the privilege of walking alongside people in their recovery journey. 🩷

This is personal.
This is important.

Still relying on black leggings and pads?

That might be your body’s way of letting you know: “I need help.”

Even small leaks now can lead to bigger problems later.

✖️ And no — it’s not always about weak muscles.

🤔 Your pelvic floor might actually be too tight to function well.

🤔 You could be dealing with a prolapse or hypermobility at the bladder neck.

⚠️ which might mean traditional kegels will be ineffective for you, and you may need a completely different plan of action.

You deserve more than managing the symptoms.

You deserve a LEAK-FREE LIFE 🫶

Ready to find out what’s really going on?

Let’s ditch the pads, not the workout 😏💪
