Donegal Safety Services was established in 2020 by Martin McMenamin, who has more than 20 years experience in the development and delivery of training in multiple fields. We are aware that certain types of business will require site specific training and we will tailor our courses to suit the needs of our clients. We are always willing to meet with clients in advance of training to plan an approach that will maximise the on the job benefits to participants. Companies or individuals who require small numbers of participants to be trained can send candidates to our Public Courses which we will run throughout the year as needed. On-line or blended training courses can also be arranged as an alternative.

The Irish Heart Foundation’s Heartsaver CPR/AED Course is ideal for anyone who wants to learn CPR and how to use an Automated External Defibrillator (AED).

This Course takes approximately 3 hours to complete and teaches the basic techniques of cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR), how to use an Automated External Defibrillator (AED) and the relief of choking for adults, children and infants.

The Heartsaver CPR/AED course follows a practice-while-watching video format and is led by instructors who will provide feedback and guide you through the lessons and help improve your CPR technique as you practice on a manikin.

Participants can opt to take the adult portion of this course only (which covers adult CPR and use of the AED) and this can be done in two-hours.
Participant who can demonstrate high quality CPR at the end of the course will receive an IHF/AHA Heartsaver AED course completion card which is valid for two years.

Did you know that mini eggs are the perfect size to block a small child's airway and choke them? Plus their hard shells can make it difficult to dislodge with first aid techniques.

That's why they carry a safety warning which says they aren't recommended for children under 4.

The BLS (Basic Life Support) Provider Course is for medical, para-medical and healthcare professionals.

The skills taught include adult and paediatric CPR including two rescuer scenarios, use of bag valve mask and barrier devices, management of foreign body airway obstruction (FBAO), and use of an Automated External Defibrillator (AED).

The course takes approximately 4/4.5 hours to complete and course participants are evaluated by skills testing and a written multiple choice exam.
If you are able to successfully complete both the skills and written exam assessment components of the course you will receive an IHF/AHA BLS Provider course completion card that is valid for 2 years.

This Epilepsy Awareness and administration of Emergency Medications training is aimed at those working with persons diagnosed with Epilepsy who have been prescribed Emergency Medications for administration during seizure activity. Examples of people who attend this training are healthcare workers, educations staff, bus escorts, employers or employees who work alongside a person with epilepsy, community workers in both private and voluntary sectors and facilitators of extra-curricular activities in the community.

In these professions, it can be common to be caring for or supporting person with epilepsy and the aim of this training is to ensure that the professionals in attendance develop a greater understanding of epilepsy and how to administrator Emergency Medications.

Prevention and Management of Aggression & Violence (PMAV) Training helps to reduce the risks of violence and aggression in your workplace by developing staff knowledge, skills and attitudes to effectively employ de-escalation skills, breakaway and disengagement tactics or control and restraint interventions appropriately within the context of their service users, residents, patients and clients.

Our PMAV course is based on the HSE’s Policy on the Prevention and Management of Work-Related Aggression & Violence 2018, their Strategy for Managing Work-related Aggression and Violence within the Irish Health Service 2008 and the Mental Health Commissions’ Code of Practice on the use of Physical Restraint.

We offer both a one day basic PMAV course, and a two day advanced PMAV course.
