The Irish Foster Care Association invites you to join our Online Monthly Caring Space taking place this Thursday, 5th March from 10am–12 noon.

Held on the first Thursday of every month via Zoom, this is a supportive space for foster carers to focus on self-care, enjoy a cuppa, connect with others, and share the realities and rewards of the fostering journey.

Together, we can build resilience, support one another, and take time to mind ourselves in the midst of the important work we do.

Over 200 phone calls were received by Parentline last year from parents concerned with the use and our service is increasing the number of adolescents who need support and advice after va**ng of some seriously dangerous products. When young people in foster care turn 18, the Foster Care Allowance ends. If they stay in education, the Aftercare Allowance is paid but this is €125/week less than the foster care allowance. If they are not in education, they receive no support at all.

This leaves many young people without the stability they need as they make the difficult transition to adulthood.

IFCA is calling for the Aftercare Allowance to be aligned with the Foster Care Allowance and continued until at least age 23, regardless of education status.

Because every young person leaving care deserves equal support as they build their future.
