Body Restore Injury Clinic

Body Restore Injury Clinic Now open in Ardpatrick and Castletroy. I also specialise in assessment of the feet to find solutions to current issues.

I use a wide range of therapies to treat injuries and pain by utilising movement based assessments and client self-care information. My name is Brendan Ryan and I am a Sports Rehabilitator, specialising in musculoskeletal injuries. My aim at Body Restore Clinic is to offer effective, holistic treatment of acute or chronic pain and associated movement dysfunction. I focus on taking the time to thoroughly investigate your condition in order to allow us to facilitate a lasting solution to your pain. The assessments I use allow us look at your condition not in isolation but within the context of your entire body. Habitual and exercise related movement; diet; stress and mental well being; internal organ function; structural imbalance; and overall physical well being are all considered and incorporated when necessary in the assessment and intervention in order to facilitate recovery. Most importantly, I see our sessions as a collaborative effort to determine how to address your pain with all treatments carried out at a client specific level to optimise results and foster new learning for the body. Furthermore, I want to give you the knowledge necessary to fully understand your condition and to understand how best to manage it going forward. This puts you in control of your own recovery. My goal is to bring about lasting, positive change for the body and not to simply treat symptoms over a long period as this can be ineffective and very costly. Treatments offered include; advanced gait and postural assessment, structural and functional foot assessment, soft tissue manipulation and joint mobilisation, craniosacral balancing, movement re-education, and lifestyle considerations. Dependent on client needs, I also offer hands on treatment for fluid retention in the body, digestive/kidney issues, sleep disturbances, headaches and I employ Restorative Breathing techniques to bring about relaxation in the whole body. For further information on my methods, check out the services section. Treatments often incorporate many or all of these dependent on needs, so I would like you to feel fully informed of what is on offer. 15 minute free Skype consults are also available to assess if this is the right clinic for you.

WALKING! Specifically the idea of walking as a skill we can learn and make more effortless.
Not by stretching or rolling or anything else that's passive or lacks any real intention behind it.
I mean by assessing what we struggle to move, like the ribcage or hip etc and understanding how it is we can "renew" the ability of that joint to move and therefore bring loading to the attached tissues that may have lacked it for years.
Stiff body segments are never actually stuck in place, we (our nervous system) simply isnt allowing that area (usually through pain or old injury) to move so we dont feel ok to put our weight through them.
In the same way that novel activities leave us aching in new places, we can also learn ways to avoid what we deem to be dangerous so that other places never ache again, protecting us.
A lot can happen when we move past that fear and take control of our bodies rather than having a small part of it set the tone for everything you do.

A very interesting article showing the importance of bone in even more functions of the body. They are not just solid sticks that muscles attach to, they are living and always involved. This opens the doors for many future studies to build on all thats been done here!

When faced with a predator or sudden danger, the heart rate goes up, breathing becomes more rapid, and fuel in the form of glucose is pumped throughout the body to prepare an animal to fight or flee.

Moving one way in the gym and a totally different way outside of it is a strange paradox in the fitness and rehab industry. We are encouraged to do a ever growing number of things with focus while we lift heavy weights or while doing jumps, hops, landings and plyometrics to keep us "stable". We then head out the door and go back to our "normal" where we dont focus on each body part, we couldn't if we tried anyway. If we only practice rigidly in a way that doesnt reflect how we move through our day and the demands it imposes on our bodies then we are missing out on how incredibly adaptable the body is to new stimulus and challenge!!!! The more you try new things the less new things will try you!

Lovely post by about the importance of pushing into new spaces with our bodies and teaching ourselves to overcome fears surrounding specific ranges of movement, which are often associated with a painful area. By trying new things or retraining what has been lost over time, we are gaining understanding of what we are capable of instead of assuming. With more practice we gain more confidence and competence in the novel movements and they are integrated into our lives. Our brain needs to be conditioned to not see random movements or deviations from the norm as a danger but to be as comfortable as anything else we do. Comfort with variation is very important for all of our bodies.

Great handstand workshop with yesterday! We learnt a lot of simple drills and tips to make balancing the wrong way up a little easier. It's safe to say I am broke up after it 😂😂 makes you realise how much learning went into doing so on our feet for the first time all those years ago

This is as simple as it gets for the majority of people with minor injuries and many others with chronic pain not based on an injury event. If it wasnt broken, you dont need to fix it. Just fu***ng move it and believe in your body, it got you this far and hasn't stopped. If it needs help getting back to itself, help it by loading it and moving those cranky areas.

A funny comic version but so true about us. The pains we feel around our bodies arent just tissue feeling pain or being damaged. They are very often multifaceted situations involving emotional elements and cant be so easily explained. It is important to consider this especially if you suffer from chronic pain. Fear of movement and your beliefs can affect how you move your body or part of it. Every day we move in this way which may lead to the pain persisting as we never restore the movement/confidence we once had in that area. Be willing to explore all sides playing a part in your pain and safely address it to find lasting change as you would any other stressor in your life. Often when we move into the discomfort it can be exactly what's needed to overcome the problem, not move further away from it and have it exert control over us.
