Ivy Clinic is currently experiencing an unprecedented amount of calls. We will endeavour to do what we can to accommodate patients in need in a timely manner.
A triage system is in-place and we would encourage you to look at other avenues before contacting your GP.
- [x] Visit https://www2.hse.ie/under-the-weather/ to seek advice on the management of colds, flu, temperature control and pain relief.
- [x] Your local Pharmacist is a highly qualified professional and they can advise you on over the counter remedies and also offer advice on the best course of action for you, individually.
- [x] Life threatening illness should be dealt with straight through emergency services ph: 999.
- [x] Routine checks, bloods and reviews will be better catered to once flu season has passed, likely to be February and March.
- [x] Results that return to your GP within a normal range will be followed up on at lesser demanding times, you can give consent to your practice to have normal results reported from the admin team.

The appointment scheduling process

Why does the receptionist ask you the reason for attendance?
Once a time slot has been selected for you a note will be added for the immediate perusal of the Doctor or Nurse. This in turn will help the triage process which is very necessary in a busy healthcare setting.

This way, multiple things can be determined:
* How long the appointment will take. Certain appointments will require extra time.
* If the Doctor or Nurse needs to make any arrangements prior to your visit.
* If the Doctor needs to do any research in advance to follow up on previous treatments.
* If it's likely they'll need something from you (urine, blood-test etc) the receptionist might inform you about this.
* To recognise the necessity for an urgent appointment or the requirement for emergency services.

If you do not wish to go into detail with admin staff, you might consider a vague answer like, women’s or men’s health issue, muscle strain, stomach upset, meds review etc..
Admin staff are advised by medical staff to obtain brief details where possible to help you and direct you appropriately. Reception staff are also duty bound by contract to the same level of confidentiality as all healthcare workers.
