It is with deep sadness that we announce the passing of Gus Hanley, Killashee, Co. Longford, and formerly of Richmond Street, Longford Town, and former Principal of Ardagh NS, who passed away peacefully at the Mater Private Hospital, Dublin, on Monday, April 20th, 2026.

Predeceased by his beloved daughter Louise, sister Marie, and brother Niall.

Gus will be sadly missed and lovingly remembered by his partner Evelyn, daughter Emma, son Darren, Anita, the McLoughlin family, the McGuinness family, his extended family, neighbours, and a wide circle of friends.

May Gus rest in peace.

Reposing at Kelly’s Funeral Home, Athlone Road, Longford (Eircode N39 K381) on Saturday, May 2nd, 2026, from 4.00pm until 6.30pm.

We regret to inform you of the passing of the late Rev. Fr. Gerard J. McNulty, USA and late of Battery Rd, Longford, peacefully at Nazareth House, San Diego, on 3rd February, in the kind and loving care of loyal friends and attentive nursing staff.

Predeceased by his brother, Dr Cyril, and his parents, Paddy and Lily McNulty. Sadly, missed by his brothers Michael, Aidan and David; his sisters-in-law Mary, Peggy, Theresa and Martina; and all his nieces and nephews.

Fr Gerry attended All Hallows College, Dublin, and was ordained for the Archdiocese of Los Angeles, CA, in 1967. He was a Major in the U.S. Air Force Reserve and a much-loved Chaplain in the Department of Veterans Affairs. He was a dearly beloved member of his family and will be very much missed by all his colleagues and friends, both in Ireland and the USA.

His remains will repose at the home of his brother, Michael, 20 Sandymount Avenue, Dublin, D04 VP11, on Wednesday, 25th February, from 4 o’clock, concluding with prayers at 8 o’clock.

Removal to St Mel’s Cathedral, Longford, on Thursday morning for Requiem Mass at 11 o’clock, followed by interment in Ballymacormack Cemetery, Longford.

We regret to inform you of the passing of the late Derek Grante Cobbe, Gurteenorna, Longford and formerly of Rialto, Dublin, died on January 30th 2026, following a prolonged illness.

Predeceased by his parents David and Ada and his brother Stuart (Sandy).

Survived by his brother Ivan (Maria). Derek was a former editor of the Longford Leader and subsequently was proprietor and editor of the Longford News. Derek was part of many families’ everyday life through his work as “Uncle Larry” over several decades. He also practised as a consultant hypnotherapist and served the community as a Commissioner for Oaths and Peace Commissioner.

Deeply missed by Sarah Strange (Aaron) and Noel Strange Jnr. (Linda) and by their parents Noel and Carmel Strange, who were family to him in every meaningful sense. Held in great affection by Aoife, Róisín and Méabh Quinn and by Ellie and Leo Strange, who cherished him as a grandparent.

He will be sadly missed by the Turner family and his lifelong friends in the circus world: Mona, Jacqueline, Stephen, John and Tommy Courtney and Peggy and Conor Kelly and his close neighbours Eithne and Dick Rafferty and many local friends.

Removal to Saint John’s Church, Battery Road, Longford on Monday evening 2nd February arriving at 7:30pm. Funeral service will take place on Tuesday, February 3rd at 12 noon, followed by burial in Saint Paul’s Church Cemetery, Newtownforbes

We regret to inform you of the passing of the late Vincent (Kevin) McCreanor, Hackney, London and formerly of Templemichael Terrace, Longford Town, County Longford, passed away unexpectedly at home, 19th December 2025.

Pre-deceased by his partner Beryl, parents Patrick and Mary Frances, by his brothers Tony, Raymond, Gerry, Frankie, Michael, Patsy, Jimmy, Brendan and Liam and sister Rosemarie.

Kevin will be sadly missed and remembered with love by his family, sister Marie Hayes, brother Clement, sister-in-law Annamai, godsons Kevin and James, stepchildren Gary, Avril and Jeff, nieces, nephews, relatives and many good friends.

We regret to inform you of the passing of the late Kathleen Canning, formerly of Rinnagowna, Dromod, Co. Leitrim, peacefully on the 21st of November 2025, in her 101st year, surrounded by her loving family and in the excellent care of the staff of The Shannon Lodge Nursing Home, Rooskey.

Predeceased by her husband Ambrose, brother Michael and sister Mary.

Kathleen will be sadly missed by her loving family, son Des, daughter-in- law Theresa, grandson Aaron and wife Theresa, granddaughter Amy, great grand-daughter Filippa, nieces, nephews, cousins, relatives, good friends and neighbours.

Peacefully, in the tender care of the doctors, nurses and care staff in Laurel Lodge Nursing Home. Predeceased by her parents Michael and Katie, her brothers Michael, Joe, Tony, Ambrose, Stephen, Terry and Harry and her sister Mary.

Lovingly remembered by her sister- in -law Marina, nephews, nieces, grandnephews, grandnieces, relatives, friends, teaching colleagues and the Sisters of Mercy Western Branch.

Tuesday 20th of May 2025, peacefully surrounded by his loving family and in the exceptional care of the staff of The Clonmacnoise Ward of The Midland Regional Hospital, Tulllamore.

Predeceased by his parents, brothers and sisters.

We regret to inform you of the passing of the late, Michael (Mike) Skelly, Glebe, Colehill, Co. Longford, passed away peacefully, in the wonderful care of the staff of Level 4 of The Midland Regional Hospital, Mullingar on 20th December 2024, surrounded by his loving daughters and granddaughter, in his 74th year. Predeceased by his parents John and Bridget Skelly, his sister Mary Dolan and wife, Anne Collins Skelly.

Sadly missed by his beloved daughters Natasha and Sharon, grandchildren Gemma, Rania and Khaled, brother Liam, his daughter’s mother Marie, nephews, nieces, extended family, neighbours and wide circle of friends.
