22/04/2026
This year marks 56 years since Earth Day first began in the US in 1970 and has now spread globally, celebrated by millions of people across the world.
It's a chance for people to honour the achievements of the environmental movement and highlight the need to protect the planet.
Earth Day takes place every year on 22 April and every year there is a different theme.
Our Power, Our Planet is Earth Day 2026’s theme reflecting a fundamental truth: environmental progress doesn’t depend on any single administration or election. It’s sustained by daily actions of communities, educators, workers, and families protecting where they live and work.
There are plenty of things we can do, big or small, if we want to connect with Mother Nature.
* Volunteer at a beach or park clean-up or pick up litter on daily walk
* Shop at local farmers market
* Cooking a meal with sustainable produce
* Go pesticide free
* Go to a composting workshop
* Plant some pollinator-friendly flowers either in your garden, balcony or in a window planter
* Plant a tree
* Swap from single-use plastic bottles to a reusable bottle
* Switch to reusable bags
* Limit how much single-use plastic you use in a day
