Today, 14th November, is World Diabetes Day, a key opportunity to raise awareness, share information, and highlight the support available to help people living with diabetes improve their overall health and well-being.
Understanding diabetes is the first step towards both managing and preventing the condition.
Type 2 diabetes accounts for over 90% of all diabetes cases, and almost half of those living with it may be undiagnosed.
In many situations, type 2 diabetes and its complications can be delayed or prevented through healthy lifestyle habits.
Knowing your risk and what steps to take can support early diagnosis, timely treatment, and better long-term outcomes.
Look out for the following symptoms, especially if they are new or persistent:
🔹 Feeling constantly thirsty, even after drinking
🔹 Passing urine more frequently, particularly at night
🔹 Tiredness, low energy, or sleeping more than usual
🔹 Unexplained weight loss
🔹 Frequent infections or slow-healing cuts and wounds
🔹 Numbness, pain, or tingling in hands or feet
🔹 Blurred vision
If you are experiencing any of these symptoms, contact your GP.
