๐Ÿ’œ World Prematurity Day โ€” November 17th ๐Ÿ’œ

Today, we shine a light on the 1 in 10 babies born too soon around the world. Each of these tiny fighters carries incredible strength, and behind every one is a family filled with courage, love, and hope.

World Prematurity Day is a time to raise awareness, celebrate progress in neonatal care, and stand together for better outcomes for preterm babies and their families. Because every babyโ€”no matter how early their arrivalโ€”deserves the best possible start in life.

Letโ€™s wear purple, share stories, and honour the smallest heroes who teach us that resilience comes in the tiniest packages.

Whether youโ€™re a parent, carer, or supporter, join the conversation belowโ€”share a message of hope or light a virtual candle for a little one who inspires you. ๐Ÿ’œ

A personal story on this special day from our Vice President Mary.๐Ÿ’œ

โ€œAs someone who was born prematurely at approximately 24 weeks, now over 50 years ago, this day holds profound personal significance. I was 1 lb 11 oz and more than 3 months early.

I hope my story offers reassurance and optimism to families welcoming a very small or early-arriving baby, reminding them that positive outcomes are truly possible.

My early start in life has undoubtedly influenced my passion for supporting premature infants through baby massage, a practice that provides numerous developmental and emotional benefits.

Observing the impact of nurturing touch has further deepened my commitment to raising awareness about the vital role it plays in the wellbeing of these tiny, yet incredibly resilient, individuals.

As Director and Vice President of Baby Massage Ireland, a chapter of the International Association of Baby Massage, I am committed to promoting the importance of nurturing touch and advocating for the wellbeing of our tiniest and most resilient individuals.โ€

Thank you Mary for sharing this deeply personal and inspiring message with us all. ๐Ÿ’œ
