When should your child first see an orthodontist? 🦷

For most children, the best age for a first orthodontic check is around 7️⃣

Treatment at ages 3 to 5 is usually unnecessary as the jaws and face are still growing naturally.

Snoring or mouth breathing? 😴 My first step is usually an ENT (Ear Nose and Throat) assessment, as enlarged adenoids or tonsils are often the real cause, not the palate width.

Age 7 lets us assess properly and treat only when truly needed ✅

Precision matters 🔬🦷

In this case, we are using a CBCT scan to accurately assess the transverse (palatal width) discrepancy in an adult patient prior to planning palatal expansion.

Using the best tools and technology, including the DEXIS OP 3D CBCT, allows us to evaluate the skeletal anatomy in three dimensions and plan treatment with a high level of precision.

This is where orthodontics goes beyond “straightening teeth”. It is about detailed diagnosis, understanding skeletal limitations, and planning treatment based on objective data rather than assumptions.

Done properly, this allows us to select the right approach, whether that is conventional expansion, MARPE, or a surgically assisted option.
