I've noticed something
People come to my yoga class for many reasons. To be more flexible, to be stronger, to look better, to tame the monkey mind, etc.
When they arrive in their mat for the first time, they are nervous, unsure what to expect, on high alert, feeling self conscious.
After training their awareness to go where i invite them, their breath, sensations in the body, the story in their mind, they manage to step out of the role they have been playing and simply observe.
It doesn't take much energy to look. The body does need to brace when you are not involved, and so rest and healing is switched on. You feel more connected to you, to those around you, and with time to something bigger than you.
And so savasana is where they get to just be, without all the conditioning.
The reason that students come back week after week is because that feeling in savasana feels like home. It feels like you have just taken off a big heavy rucksack that was dragging you down. You feel lighter, calmer, more content.
Most importantly, you feel empowered because you now know that you can change how you feel without changing any of the conditions in your life.
They came thinking they needed to fix something externally and discovered their internal power.
