"Listening is the gateway to understanding."

A client, let's call her Mary, came to me this week for session. She was stressed, running at full speed, and very distracted. I greeted her with a smile. We came into the treatment room, sat down in two comfortable chairs, and had a chat.

This was all before the time on the treatment table.

As she shared about her day, I listened and asked questions. We shared a common bond of seeking her highest good. he apologised for talking so much - I reminded her that this is her time, and chatting is part of the session.

As we moved to her treatment, she visibly relaxed. Her breathing slowed. Her shoulders settled onto the treatment table. The worried tense lines in her forehead smoothed out.

At the end of the treatment, she was smiling, felt energised, and was ready to face the day.

So, here's what I'd like you to remember . . .

When you arrive for your session, you're stepping into a sacred space. This is your time to be fully heard, deeply honoured, and held with intention.

Practice simple self help Jin Shin Jyutsu and improve your quality of life, simply by holding each finger, one a time, while exhaling to the count of 3, and inhaling to the count of 3:

Holding the thumb works on your parasympathetic nervous system, much like it does for an infant when they suck the thumb. It aids digestion, calming and harmonizing the stomach & spleen & relieves worry.

Holding the ring fingers aids the breath & helps to relieve feelings of sadness, grief & loneliness. These fingers are related to our Lungs & Large Intestine.

The middle finger is helpful for releasing feelings of anger, frustration & impatience. (It's easy to remember as people tend to throw that middle finger up when they're mad!) The associated organs are Gallbladder & Liver

Hang onto the index finger when feelings of anxiety & fear are coming up for you. They help to balance both bladder & kidney energy, which are often involved in back & hip pain, and muscle tension.

Your little fingers relate to being tense before an event such as public speaking, taking tests or going on interviews, etc.. They're also helpful for both Heart & Small Intestine

In addition, each of the fingers has a direct connection to the individual vertebra of the spinal column, and the "gateways" that we practitioners refer to as SELs, also referred to as the Safety Energy Locks.

The actual sites of these energetic linkages (SELs) are located at various "points" on the body, and are accessed during sessions to help clear & harmonize the whole being, mentally, emotionally & physically.

The affects of these treatments are very much like those gained with acupuncture sessions, but without the needles!

The sequences of holding the Sels are called flows, and are used specifically for addressing each individual client's needs.

We utilize pulse listening & body reading, as well as other observations in order to determine what flows to give during the course of treatment. This is all part of why Jin Shin Jyutsu is referred to as a healing art, rather than a modality.
No 2 sessions are exactly alike, for just as the our daily lives go through changes, so to our individual needs shift much like the tides do.

I printed out my own Self-Care Bingo card last week. The empty spaces were...a wake up call for me.

But here's what I realised - those blank spaces aren't failures. They're information.

What if we stopped forcing ourselves into someone else' version of self-care and asked instead: What do I actually need? What would genuinely feed my soul right now?

(Spoiler: My revised bingo card is decidedly less Pinterest-worthy. And that's perfectly okay.)
