Arthritis Ireland will host a foot health and arthritis webinar on Tuesday 10th September at 12.30pm. Sandra Caulfield (Clinical Specialist Physiotherapist) and Yvonne Buckley (Clinical Specialist MSK Podiatrist) will discuss common foot and ankle presentations, prevention strategies including; how to do daily foot checks, advice on footwear, and mobility exercises.

They will also guide attendees on when to attend health care providers with concerns around foot health and who is best placed to assess and manage certain conditions.

The Proper Width
Wearing shoes that fit properly can help with foot conditions and problems but wearing shoes that are the wrong size or width can lead to foot problems and make existing foot problems even worse. That’s why it’s important to wear the right size and choose the correct width shoes.

Did you know that 88% of women wear shoes that are too small and 70% of men wear the wrong size? That’s according to a study conducted by the American Orthopaedic Foot and Ankle Society.

The right width is especially important to prevent long-term damage to your foot. A shoe that’s too narrow or doesn’t allow enough depth or room in the toe box can cause cramping and undo stress on the delicate ligaments and muscles of the foot and toes.
An Improper fit can lead to stability issues, resulting in injury. It can deform your toes or lead to blisters, painful callouses, and aggravate existing foot conditions.
