Grief doesn’t follow neat stages. It moves in waves — sometimes steady, sometimes unexpected. Some feelings fade and return, while others stay with us longer.🌻

📣 Calling all therapists & student therapists!

With national concern growing around client notes being accessed and used in legal trials, many therapists are quietly asking themselves…

“Am I writing too much?”
“Am I writing too little?”
“Are my notes GDPR compliant?”
“Would my notes stand up in a court process?”

It’s never been more important to know how to write clinical notes that are:

• Clinically relevant
• Ethical and professional
• Protects client privacy
• Minimise risk of misinterpretation or misuse
• Defensible in the event of complaints or legal processes

This training is practical, supportive and ideal for therapists, trainee students who want clarity and confidence.

Delivered in person by Anita Lynch, Clinical Director of The Misneach Centre.

The Misneach Centre Policy Update: Therapy Notes in Sexual Violence Cases

At The Misneach Centre, we are committed to providing counselling that is safe, trauma-informed, and survivor-led.

In response to ongoing national concern about access to counselling notes in sexual violence cases, The Misneach Centre has updated our policy going forward:

✅ We do not document therapy content relating to disclosures of sexual abuse / sexual assault.
✅ We may note that a disclosure has been made (to ensure safe care and appropriate support), but we will not record details of what happened.
✅ Our counselling notes are kept solely for clinical continuity

For example:

attendance/session tracking
the therapeutic approach/interventions used
short notes to help your therapist know where you left off between sessions

Our notes are not designed to capture personal narrative, are not suitable for court use, and will contain nothing of value for external scrutiny.

This policy reflects our commitment to protecting your privacy and strengthening the sense of safety in the therapy space.

If you have any questions about confidentiality or note-taking, your therapist will discuss it with you openly and compassionately.

Today, I am proud to stand with EIST and to publicly join this vital campaign.

As a fellow survivor of sexual abuse, and as a psychotherapist, I know first hand the courage it takes to speak, to seek support, and to begin healing. Survivors enter the counselling room believing it is a safe, confidential space. That trust must never be compromised.

I am calling on the Irish Government to immediately end the practice of counselling notes being accessed and used in court proceedings involving survivors of sexual abuse and sexual assault.

Counselling notes are not evidence!

They are clinical reflections, written to support healing, not to be dissected, misinterpreted, or weaponised in a legal system that already places an enormous burden on victims.

Using these notes only serves to further traumatise and silence survivors.

I am honoured to receive this certificate from EIST, which recognises my pledge to never hand over confidential counselling records of survivors of sexual assault and violence for use in court proceedings. This is not just a professional stance, it is a moral one.

Survivors deserve dignity.
They deserve protection.
They deserve a system that does not retraumatise them for seeking help.

I stand with EIST, with survivors, and with every therapist who believes that confidentiality saves lives.

It is time for change.

St Brigid’s Day Sunset Dip | Lough Owel

In honour of St Brigid’s Day, a time traditionally linked with new beginnings, light returning, healing and renewal. I’m hosting a gentle gathering in nature at sunset at the beautiful, scenic Lough Owel (near Mullingar).

St Brigid represents strength, compassion and resilience and it feels so meaningful that her day is now being openly acknowledged again.

So we’ll mark it together in the Misneach way: connection • belonging • presence.

We’ll meet at the lake, take a moment to arrive, and begin with an optional sage smudging ceremony to set intentions for the season ahead.

Then, as the sun sets, anyone who feels called can join us for a cold water dip.

We’ll finish by warming up together and sipping a warm drink from our flasks, with a gentle invitation to journal afterwards, taking time to reflect on what you’re welcoming in.

This is not a retreat and there is no cost, just a community gathering in nature for anyone who feels drawn to it.

📍 Location: Lough Owel, Mullingar (Diving board area)
🗓 Date: Sunday 1st Feb
🕰 Time: Meet at 3pm (dip at sunset)

✅ Bring:
• towel + warm clothes / robe
• hat + gloves
• a flask with a warm drink
• water shoes (if you have them)
• journal + pen (optional, for afterwards)
• a friend if you’d like

⚠️ Important: This is a self-led outdoor dip. Participation is entirely at your own risk. Please only join if cold water dipping is safe for you, don’t enter the water alone, and always stay within your comfort level.

If you feel called to join us, comment below “I’m in” or send me a DM.
