Solas Drop-In Centre Mental Health Drop-In Centre The Solas Drop-in Centre represents the social needs of mental health service users in the area.

The Solas Drop-in Centre, based in Monaghan, was established in 2001 as a direct response to the needs of people with mental health problems living the Monaghan area, who, on discharge from the mental health services, identified social exclusion as being one of the major barriers they have to face. Solas is a drop-in centre which is a user led, user run facility for those with mental health problems to provide them with a social outlet. Solas is proud to announce Psychologist Shane Martin who will be delivering a talk on Positive Mental Health in 4 Seasons Hotel on Wednesday 15th October 2025 at 7pm. Free Admission and All Welcome.

Wake Up! You’re here! - Psychologist Shane Martin returns to his native county with a special community talk which will take place in 4 Seasons Hotel on Wednesday 15th October at 7pm. He will highlight everyone’s potential to make simple changes in their approach to living that will have a positive effect on their physical and mental health. This is a free talk but you need to book your place in advance by contacting Alice at 087 610 5375 or email solascentre@hotmail.com.

What will he be talking about? In recent years psychologists have started to examine positive emotion. This research has focused on what makes people happier, what gives them more meaning and purpose in life, and what measures they can take to lead to overall greater health.

Shane will outline simple, practical, and most importantly, evidence-based strategies linked to a better quality of life. The hope is that it will uplift and inspire change in the lives of those who attend but but even more importantly inspire participants to incorporate it into their homes, workplaces and communities.

Shane Martin is a psychologist whose work blends scientific insight with a human touch. Known for his engaging and often humorous presentation style, he makes psychology accessible and practical for everyday life. Drawing on research in positive psychology, his talks are uplifting, relatable, and rooted in real-life stories, leaving people not only informed but also inspired to make positive changes. A native of Carrickmacross, He lived in Monaghan for many years before moving to Sligo five years ago. He is the author of the psychology book Your Precious Life - How to live it well published by Orpen Press and three collections of poems.
