Supporting School-aged Children with Language and Literacy Difficulties
Tuesday 24th March at 6.30pm-7.30pm in Leixlip Community Library
This practical 1-hour talk equips teachers, SNAs, and parents with effective strategies to support school-aged children who experience language and literacy challenges. Participants will gain a clear understanding of how language skills underpin reading, writing, and classroom learning, and how difficulties in these areas may present in everyday school settings. The session explores evidence-based techniques to strengthen vocabulary, sentence structure, comprehension, phonological awareness, and early literacy development. Attendees will learn simple, classroom-friendly approaches to scaffolding learning, adapting instructions, and building children’s confidence as communicators and readers. Practical examples, resources, and take-home tips ensure participants leave with actionable ideas they can begin using immediately to support children’s success across the curriculum.

KCCC is delighted to host this session on supporting transitions from pre-school to primary school.

The transition from pre-school to primary school can be one of the most important transitions that your child will make.

The National Parents Council will deliver this free, interactive workshop. The session will be full of practical hints, tips and advice to support you to support your child’s transition to primary school.

Each session will be limited to 15 parents to allow for discussion and questions.

📚🐭My Little Library🐭 - Book Bags

All children completing the free universal pre-school Early Childhood Care and Education Programme and starting primary school are invited to visit their local library and pick up a free book bag. The bags will be available at the workshop.

All families are welcomed to join the library if they are not already members.
