Common Injuries for Golfers

Golf may appear low-impact, but the repetitive twisting and powerful swing can place significant stress on the body.

Some of the most common injuries golfers experience include:

• Lower back pain
• Golfer’s elbow
• Shoulder strains
• Wrist injuries
• Hip tightness

These injuries are often linked to repetitive movement, limited mobility, or muscle imbalances.

Because the golf swing requires coordination between the hips, spine, shoulders and core, restrictions in one area can place extra strain on another.

Improving mobility, strength and movement patterns can help golfers reduce pain and improve performance on the course.

If you experience pain during or after golf, Naas Osteopath can assess the underlying cause and help you return to the game more comfortably. For appointments or enquiries, email info@naasosteopaths.ie

Osteopathy can help if the root cause is tightness in the neck. Some babies are at higher risk of plagiocephaly because of a reluctance to lay on their front. This may be due to reflux, or sometimes a musculoskeletal issue, such as muscle tightness, that we can help with.

Is the Cross Trainer / Elliptical a Good Substitute for Running?

The elliptical can be a useful low-impact alternative to running, particularly when recovering from certain injuries.

Because your feet stay in contact with the pedals, the elliptical reduces much of the impact forces placed on the knees, hips and ankles during running.

Benefits include:

• Maintaining cardiovascular fitness
• Reduced stress on joints
• A movement pattern similar to running
• Adjustable resistance and intensity

For runners recovering from injuries such as shin splints, knee pain, or Achilles issues, it can be a helpful way to stay active.

However, it’s important to ensure the exercise doesn’t aggravate the injury, and it should be combined with appropriate rehabilitation and strength work.

If you’re unsure what type of exercise is appropriate for your injury, Naas Osteopath can help guide you through a safe recovery plan. You can make an enquiry at info@naasosteopaths.ie

Osteopaths are trained medical professionals, who treat using manual therapy, treating various conditions usually affecting the musculoskeletal system. At Naas Osteopaths we use a variety of techniques to aid in recovery including soft tissue and mobilizing or moving the joints to help increase range of motion. Osteopaths are also trained to manipualte or move joints and this may occur during treatment. This is not done in every treatment and is totally dependent on a case by case basis. The Osteopath explains the benefits of treatments, any risks or alternatives and will always gain your consent before proceeding.

Swimming is one of the best low-impact exercises for overall fitness.

Because the water supports your body weight, it places far less stress on joints and tendons compared to running.

Benefits of swimming include:

• Excellent cardiovascular exercise
• Low impact on joints
• Full body muscle engagement
• Improved mobility and flexibility
• A great option during injury recovery

For runners dealing with injuries such as shin splints, plantar fasciitis, or knee pain, swimming can help maintain fitness while reducing stress on the injured area.

It’s also an excellent cross-training option even when you’re healthy.

If an injury is stopping you from running or exercising comfortably, Naas Osteopath can help guide your recovery and keep you active where possible. To get in touch, email info@naasosteopaths.ie
