Hypnosis – FAQ
Hi everyone and hope you are all enjoying the weekend.
Unfortunately most people I speak with initially have a misconception regarding what hypnosis is. And, therefore I’d now like to clarify as concisely as I can what it really is and do so with the following page from my website htpp://personaltransformations.ie entitled ‘Hypnosis FAQ’ and hope that you find it interesting, informative and helpful for you.
What is hypnosis?
Unlike the TV or movie version, hypnosis is simply a state of deep relaxation. And, in this state, the critical factor is set aside and the desired change is then hopefully brought about.
Can anyone be hypnotised?
Yes. In fact most people experience hypnosis several times a day without even realising it. For example, we all experience hypnosis while day-dreaming, listening to relaxing music and reading books. Also, the state experienced directly on entering and leaving sleep is hypnosis.
What does hypnosis feel like?
Because hypnosis is merely an altered state of awareness, at no time will you be asleep or unaware of what is going on. However, you will feel more relaxed than you normally do. Also, feelings of peace, serenity and well-being generally accompany this feeling of deep relaxation.
Can I do something against my will?
No. In fact, if anything is ever innocently suggested to you in hypnosis that is against, for example, your morals or beliefs, you can simply ignore it.
What about stage-hypnosis?
Successful stage-hypnosis relies on willing volunteers. And, those people who do volunteer have a desire to perform in the show. Hypnosis merely helps them to release any inhibitions that they may ordinarily have while doing so. However, when a fully qualified hypnotherapist is using hypnosis to help you, he is using it to access your subconscious in order to bring about positive change in your life.
Will I remember everything during hypnosis?
Yes. Due to the fact that you are in a conscious state of awareness at all times during hypnosis, you will remember everything.
Am I giving up control during hypnosis?
No. You will be in complete control during the entire session. Furthermore, always remember, that the only one who thinks in your mind is you - therefore, the only one that can control your mind is you.
Are there any after effects?
After each session most people feel very relaxed, while at the same time being in complete control of all their faculties. Also, when their consultation is complete, they are able to perform any task that they normally perform on a daily basis, such as driving, working in their usual occupations, etcetera. Additionally, most people experience a very pleasant increase of positive energy after each session.
Why is hypnosis sometimes linked to magic, mysticism and mystery?
Once again, TV and movies are mostly responsible for this. However, there is nothing magical, mystical or mysterious about hypnosis. In fact, it is a normal, natural phenomenon that is freely available to everyone.
I hope that you enjoyed reading the above piece on hypnosis and also hope that you found it to be interesting, informative and helpful for you. Furthermore, if there are any questions you have for me on this topic or any other topic related to my work as a clinical hypnotherapist & psychotherapist, please feel free to ask me and if I can answer them I will. Hope you enjoy the rest of your weekend and best regards, David
