Having gained invaluable experience at Aut Even Orthopaedic Hospital in Kilkenny, Niamh is experienced in working with people who suffer with arthritic knee and hip pain. “My orthopaedic experience enables me to know when patients do or do not need surgery and I really enjoy helping patients to recover after knee and hip surgeries, especially after Total Hip and Knee Replacements”. At Physiofit, the aim is to fully rehabilitate patients using specialised rehabilitation equipment so that patients return to a pre-operative state as soon as possible. Care of the Elderly

Yoga is the union of mind and body and Pilates is a method of improving spinal alignment and core stability. Niamh's journey of teaching Pilates began with the Australian Physiotherapy & Pilates Institute (APPI) based in London. She finds Pilates particularly beneficial to people who suffer with spinal pain. The benefits of Pilates are well-documented and Niamh uses them routinely with patients. She travelled to India, to study Yoga at its source and here she immersed herself in a strict yogic lifestyle at a traditional ashram. She learned asanas (exercises), pranayama (breathing techniques) and yogic philosophy. She gained an internationally recognised Yoga Teacher Training qualification that is accredited by the International Yoga Alliance. Niamh has just returned from home from a second stay in India, where she completed studies in Advanced Yoga Teacher Training.

“My philosophy is that a combination of yoga and Pilates works best.”

“I apply my physiotherapy background to modern Pilates methods, yogic philosophies and mindfulness/meditation to in order to restore physical and emotional wellbeing. My unique method has curative and preventative benefits for the body. These include increased flexibility and muscle strength, increased energy levels and vitality, improved athletic performance, empowerment and improved body awareness and protection from injury and early degeneration”. This successful combination has seen Niamh work with Tipperary’s senior hurlers and various club hurling teams in Tipperary and Limerick. Your core doesn’t ‘bounce back’ in 6 weeks. Healing takes time.

Your core = diaphragm + deep abs + pelvic floor + back muscles working together.

⏳ 0–6 weeks: Your body is repairing. Focus on breathing and gentle pelvic floor activation.
⏳ 6–12 weeks: Start light core rehab. Focus on your deep core.
⏳ 3–6 months: Strength and stability improve with consistent rehab.
⏳ Up to 12 months: Full recovery for many women.

Important factors that affect healing
• Diastasis recti (abdominal separation)
• C-section vs vaginal birth
• Number of pregnancies
• Strength before pregnancy
• Doing proper postpartum core exercises

💡 If you skip rehab and rush back to high impact workouts, you can worsen diastasis recti, back pain or pelvic floor issues.

Seeing a pelvic health physio for a prolapse assessment might sound intimidating but it’s actually a really necessary appointment.

It involves:
• Talking about your symptoms and birth history
• Looking at posture, breathing and abdominal function
• Assessing pelvic floor muscle strength and coordination
• Sometimes an internal vaginal exam to check for prolapse and muscle function

Treatment — pelvic floor rehab, pressure management, strength training, and support to get back to the activities you love.

Physiofit, an all-female physio clinic is a space where you can bring your baby, feel comfortable, ask anything and finally understand what’s going on with your body. 🤍

What they don’t tell you about Mum & Baby Pilates 🤍

It’s often the first place mums build the confidence to take their baby out. A space where feeding, rocking, crying and nappy changes are completely normal - no judgement, just compassion & support.

The exercises may look simple, but they’re incredibly powerful. Gentle movements that help rebuild your core, support your pelvic floor and aid real postnatal recovery.

And while the instructor guides the class… the babies usually run it!

It’s not about perfect workouts.
It’s about recovery, confidence and community ✨

An evidence-based return to movement — designed for the postnatal body.

Our 5-Week Rehabilitative Exercise Program, led by a Pelvic Health Physiotherapist, offers a premium, small-group experience for mums ready to rebuild strength, restore confidence and return to impact safely.

This program bridges the gap between postnatal recovery and confident movement — combining clinical expertise with mindful strength training in a calm, supportive studio environment.

Across five weeks, you will:

✔️ Gain a clear understanding of how pregnancy, labour, and birth have affected your body
✔️ Learn effective, stage-appropriate postnatal exercise using Pilates, progressive strength training, mobility, flexibility & yoga
✔️ Be educated on common postnatal conditions including:
• Diastasis Recti (abdominal separation)
• Pelvic floor dysfunction (incontinence & prolapse)
• Musculoskeletal injuries related to posture, lifting & overuse

✔️ Follow evidence-based strengthening protocols for your core and pelvic floor
✔️ Complete a Return to Run assessment to determine readiness for higher impact exercise
✔️ Receive fully adaptable programming tailored to your individual stage of recovery

🤍 Suitable from 6 weeks post vaginal birth or 8 weeks post caesarean
🤍 Babies welcome (up to ~9 months or prior to active mobility)
🤍 A judgement-free, nurturing space — feeding, settling, changing all encouraged
🤍 Post-class café catch-ups to connect with other mums (optional)

This is not a standard postnatal class.
It’s a clinically informed, thoughtfully curated rehabilitation experience — empowering you to move forward with strength, clarity and confidence.

After experiencing a prolapse following my (very very fast) first birth, I gained a whole new perspective on what truly matters in the immediate postpartum period.

It’s not about fearing one “bad” or “threatening” exercise - I t’s about HOW you’re doing it.

Listening to your body’s signals.
Observing, assessing and modifying as needed.

Postpartum core rehab isn’t about jumping back — it’s about rebuilding.

This time, I won’t skip this vital stage. Connection comes before progression.

Trapped under a newborn?

You can actually use this time productively to support your core, pelvic floor and nervous system later on.

Here’s a gentle postpartum reset I’ve been using to get me through those frustrating moments 🩵

Teaching perineal massage every day… and now finally doing it myself!

If you’re prepping for birth, this is one tool I can truly say feels empowering, not scary.
