I recall one mum attending class with a 2 week old baby and it worked out great for them. She had her partner drive and help with logistics and she got to have baby cuddles, chats and snacks with other mums and learned massage techniques to try at home when her baby was in the ideal quiet alert behavioural state.

Another mum came with a 7 month old who was sitting up, grabbing his toys and looking for lots of entertainment. Baby massage did not disappoint by way of entertainment! He loved the songs & rhymes, stopping to listen and look around at the other babies. He did a bit of massage sitting up, lying down and really got to show off his tummy time skills during the back massage sequence.

I write 6 weeks as ideal because the baby may be developing longer awake windows to practice the massage strokes during class and parents are normally noticing digestive discomfort in their baby and massage helps with that!

You will find a mix of baby's ages in class and if there is particular reason making it difficult for you to commit to class, feel free to get in touch with me and I will see if I can support you/baby where you are at✨

Baby massage classes are a wonderful way of bonding with your in supportive group sessions guided by me, doula & antenatal educator & massage therapist.

I'm someone who has a deeply held appreciation for the benefits of nurturing touch and massage. Pictured above; I am practicing an Indian massage technique on my doll's arm. During several weeks I will demonstrate strokes, songs & rhymes with my doll and give the opportunity for parents to practice specific series of strokes with their baby. The beneficial routine combines Indian, Swedish, yoga stretching and reflexology. This is a baby-led class; meaning sometimes babies sleep, eat or cry and meanwhile I gently pace my teaching to ensure a supportive, relaxing environment for everyone...including the mom & baby who joined us after a very broken nights sleep!

The very special art of massaging baby works on an emotional as well as physical level, developing a closeness between parent and baby that has lifelong benefits. There is research suggesting benefits to infant sleep, weight gain, relief of colic symptoms and maternal postpartum depression or isolation.

Please if you've read this far, like, share or save the post for the new mother in your life. Every week I meet people saying there was nothing like that when they had their baby.. this is likely not true!! They have just been overwhelmed by noise of heavy marketing of baby products promising to soothe, calm and aid their newborn, or overworked medical staff not having the links in community to refer their new moms. Help get the information out that inclusive classes are happening locally as many people would like to access them if they just knew who to contact.
