The body adjustment as practiced at Taylor & Conroy aims to do the following:

* Align the body, not just for good posture, but also that the body's centre of gravity is maintained and its mechanics function at their best.

* Remove restrictions in fascia, muscle and joints which improves musculoskeletal function.

* Integrate the mechanics of the body for coordinating long lever motion

* Influence lymphatic and vascular drainage using articulatory and pumping techniques

* Influence the nervous system by feedback mechanisms, using light tough, rhythmic techniques.

* Integrate spinal curves & mechanics aiding better regulation of body.

The body adjustment helps the body by facilitating its healing, while improving its functioning.

Classical Osteopathy
Most people understand the importance of the treating the spine where there is pain, postural issues, stiffness etc.

Osteopaths recognise the importance of the spine not just in mechanics but in terms of nerve supply. All nerves to all places come from our spine and brainstem. In conjunction with our brain and spinal cord (central nervous system), nerves control and regulate all body functions.

Treatment of the spine is not just important for pain, posture and stiffness but for helping to regulate the workings of spinal nerves. These nerves control muscle function. Others regulate organ and blood vessel function.

By treating the spine and body with the body adjustment both the mechanical physical body and the workings of the internal functions are assisted in their regulation.

Injuries, strains and sprains elsewhere are also treated by understanding the relationship between the spine and the areas it supplies.

STAND CORRECTED

Classical Osteopaths focus on integration, good function and free movement of the human anatomy. This contributes to good health and to the function of the immune system. This includes the articulations of the body, their muscular and ligamentous attachments and the organs.

Spinal health and normal mobility is important to the normal function of organs and muscles. The nerves from the spine determine arterial blood flow and drainage to specific areas of the body. Thus the spine is a coordinating centre for the body.

Classical treatment will aim at stripping away the layers of adaptations the body has had to go through along the years, to allow it to return to a true balanced neutral. Thus the spine is a coordinating centre for the body.

Hi everyone
Lately I find myself explaining to patients and public the benefits of Osteopathy.
Naturally, everyone has an opinion based on their experience or lack of experience of Osteopathy.
We all assume things based on the same.
Here are a few examples of what I have recently heard

* I have a bulging disc so I'll wait and get treatment later.
* The muscle behind my knee hurts and I find it difficult to put my sock on that side. Is this your area of expertise?
* My pelvis is 'out of place' can you just put it back in again and I'm on my way.

All three cases, as are many others, are very compatible with Classical Osteopathy as practiced at Taylor & Conroy Osteopaths.
Rather than get bogged down in individual details let's take look at these from the Classical approach.

The aim of consultations is to first identify what is the issue, the evaluation, the diagnosis.
After thorough examination a lot of information is gathered to understand how the persons body is working.

Treatment aims to treat the whole body
* To establish better posture, not for aesthetics but to improve the centre of gravity.
* To remove tissue & joint restrictions, improving mobility and pain free range of movement
, * By achieving the above to improve nerve signals and blood/ lymphatic circulation and drainage

All of this has the affect of ensuring that
- in case 1, the bulging disc is being loaded more appropriately, thereby easing pressure.
That other parts are working efficiently and that improved circulation and nerve conduction improves healing
- In case 2, alignment chances the tension lines of spine and hamstrings, mobilisation removes the restriction in sacroiliac joint changing the tension on hamstrings. Treatment of spinal centres improves circulation therefore healing.
- In case 3, first pelvis is 'not' out of place.
Treatment aligns body including the spine and pelvis, changes tension lines, mobilises. In this case strengthening exercises are required to maintain posture.

To summarise Classical Osteopathy treats the whole body to align, mobilise and integrate.
Treatment improves nerve signalling and improves circulation
