"Give to Gain" is the theme for this year's International Women's Day, with the message that giving support to gain advancement for women and girls benefits all of society.

As individuals, giving support means challenging stereotypes, tackling discrimination, questioning bias, and celebrating women's success.

For organisations and communities, giving women opportunity, voice, visibility, and gratitude are some of the ways that we can build a more supportive, connected world.

Applicants to the Enhanced Defective Concrete Blocks Grant Scheme are eligible for six fully-funded counselling or psychotherapy appointments with MyMind.

Sessions are provided for all residents of the affected household aged 18 and over. This includes face-to-face talk therapy in MyMind's Ballina location, within the offices of community partners Mayo North East. Online sessions are available for all affected counties: Mayo, Donegal, Sligo, Limerick and Clare.

Today marks the start of Eating Disorder Awareness Week 2026.

This year's theme is “Eating Disorders: Exploring Connection and Community,” and emphasises the importance of human connection and support in early intervention and recovery.

In 2025, 11% of MyMind clients sought support for eating disorders and body image issues. Talk therapy works to reduce feelings of isolation and underlying emotional distress. Recovery is possible with support, compassion, and understanding.

Bodywhys, the Eating Disorders Association of Ireland, will be running a host of free in-person and online events this week, including research-focused webinars and practical workshops for teachers and carers developed in collaboration with their lived experience panels. All are aimed at improving understanding and strengthening support networks for people affected by eating disorders in Ireland.

Today marks the start of National Grief Awareness Week.

From the Irish Hospice Foundation:

"During National Grief Awareness Week this year, we want to get the message out across Ireland that being aware of and supporting someone else’s grief, and our own grief, can be done in many different ways – through movement, presence, art, and so many other actions and activities. Grief can be supported through simple actions directed towards someone who is grieving like making them a cup of tea, helping them to finishing a DIY project, sending them text message, or inviting them to go for a walk. All of these actions and so many more communicate something powerful: You are not alone."

The Irish Hospice Foundation provide a National Bereavement Support Line, offering information and guidance for all affected by grief on freephone 1800 80 70 77, Monday to Friday, 10 am to 1 pm.
