The “Women in Farming” page was created to recognise women’s contributions across agriculture, share practical support and make it easier for to find trusted networks and resources because visibility, connection and support matter.

However farming fits into your life, this page is here to support women and help ensure their experiences are recognised and valued. We signpost live links to trusted networks and supports so users can find out more and connect.

So good to see the graduates of the 2024 Fit Farmers (& friends) still moving, meeting and motivated. A great January regroup on Thursday nights in Kilmurry Hall, full of laughs, energy and high spirits. Proof that when the programme ends, the habit (and the craic) doesn’t have to!

Lecarrow Fit Farmers Class of 2025 and friends, reunited St. Johns Community Centre this January after staying on the move all year. No dreary January Tuesday nights - just fitness, strength, stamina and good craic before the busy season begins. Thanks to all who joined the fun!

Thank you to Minister Michael Healy-Rae & Department of Agriculture, Food and the Marine officials for meeting at Ag House in Dublin this morning and allowing me the opportunity to provide feedback on the outcomes of the DAFM Fit Farmers funded programmes in 2025. A valuable chance to share front-line insights and ideas on farmer health, safety and wellbeing. 😊

🇱🇻Westmeath Fit Farmers – Still on the Move🇱🇻

Pictured here are the Westmeath Fit Farmers of Castletown Geoghegan, continuing their journey well beyond the finish line. Having successfully completed their programme in December, this group are still showing up, staying active and supporting one another weekly. ❤️

An enjoyable walk and talk this evening proved that the real impact of Fit Farmers is not just fitness, but connection, consistency and community.

Well done to all involved at Castletown Geoghegan Sports Hub Westmeath Sports Partnership Castletown Geoghegan Community Development but especially my farmer friends - a great example of how sustainable this programme can be in a community! 👏

The Department, in association with CAP Network Ireland are pleased to launch our Women in Agriculture photo competition as part of our International Year of the Woman Farmer 2026 schedule. It aims to recognise the vital role of women in agri-food systems and address the lack of images of female farmers, fishers, foresters, and food producers for use in agri-communications and campaigns.

The competition will highlight women in farming and rural areas while aligning with the National Action Plan for Women in Agriculture, which seeks to address the lack women-focused imagery in agri-food communications. Publicly available imagery of women is essential for appropriate recognition and representation of women farmers.
