We’re hiring – Healthcare Assistants!

Shannon Lodge is a warm, close-knit home where care is personal and teamwork matters. If you’re someone who takes pride in doing the small things well, who treats people with dignity, and who wants to work in a supportive, respectful environment, we’d love to hear from you. Experience is welcome, but so are applicants who are working towards their qualification and want to build a career in care.

The role involves supporting residents with day-to-day living, including personal care, mobility, meals and social engagement, while working closely with nursing staff to maintain high standards of safety, comfort and wellbeing. You’ll also be expected to keep clear, timely records in line with HIQA requirements and our internal policies.

Applicants should have a QQI Level 5 qualification in Healthcare Support (or equivalent), or be working towards it, along with strong communication skills and a genuine interest in caring for older people. Flexibility is required as the roster includes days, evenings, nights, weekends and public holidays.

Thank you to the Dementia Cafe for a lovely afternoon in Lough Key Forest Park . We had a great time having the chats, singing a few songs and meeting lots of lovely people. What a beautiful meal. Our residents thoroughly enjoyed their day out. Happy Christmas to all 🧑‍🎄

A fun-filled afternoon at Shannon Lodge for our annual Halloween Party 2025, with young and old joining in the spooky fun and dressing up. Music, games and halloween quiz kept the party in full swing. A little tipple 🍾went down a treat, after all it was a 🎉 party.
👻 Huge thanks to all the families who came along, and to our amazing staff and chefs for the delicious food and hard work and our talented Activities Coordinator for organising such a fantastic event! 🧡🎃that made the day so special! 🧡🎃

🌞 A Wonderful Day Out for Our Residents! 🌸

A few days ago, some of our residents from Shannon Lodge Nursing Home enjoyed a delightful day out at Cox’s Bistro in Strokestown — and what a fantastic time it was! 🥰

From delicious food to plenty of laughter, the day was filled with smiles, great company, and wonderful memories. ☕🍰

A huge thank you to the fabulous and friendly staff at Cox’s Bistro for their warm welcome and fantastic service — you truly made the day extra special for everyone. 💐

🎉 100 Years Young! 🎉

We had the absolute pleasure of celebrating Kathleen’s 100th Birthday here at Shannon Lodge Nursing Home last week – and what a celebration it was! 💐🎈

Kathleen marked the incredible milestone in style with balloons, beautiful flowers, and a toast of Baileys 🥂 surrounded by love and laughter from fellow residents and staff.

Happy Birthday, Kathleen – what an inspiration you are to us all! 💛✨ Here’s to many more happy and healthy days ahead.

A Taste of Home at Shannon Lodge 🍰🥧

This week, our residents rolled up their sleeves and enjoyed a wonderful afternoon of baking to celebrate Nursing Homes Week 2025!

With this year’s theme “A Taste of Home: Where Every Dish Tells a Story,” the kitchen was filled with laughter, delicious aromas, and plenty of sweet memories. Residents shared recipes, swapped stories, and created tasty treats that reminded them of home.

It was a heartwarming way to celebrate togetherness, food traditions, and the joy of community – the very spirit of Nursing Homes Ireland’s nationwide celebration, running from 18–24 August.

A big thank you to our amazing staff for making the day so special and to our residents for reminding us that every dish really does tell a story. ❤️
