Hello November!🍂🍁

It is with a heavy heart that I share with you all that The Yoga Lodge will be closing its doors. At least for the time being. While yoga has always been my superpower, I have reached my personal limit and need to take some well deserved break. I also want to dedicate more energy to my studies.

The Yoga Lodge was created with a simple yet meaningful purpose: to share the transformative benefits of yoga, foster inclusivity, and highlight the importance of breath and mobility in daily life.

Over the past six years, I have had the privilege of meeting many remarkable individuals—far beyond their physical presence. Each of you brought your stories, your joys, your challenges, and your unique spirit. Through these encounters, I have grown personally and gained invaluable professional experiences. The path I walk today has been shaped and inspired by all of you who have joined my classes and supported this journey.

My heart is full and deeply grateful for each and every one of you. Your trust and energy inspired me to pursue physiotherapy, striving to become an exceptional clinician while remaining guided by my instincts.

While this chapter is closing, my journey continues.
I will be teaching at from 18th to 28th May 2026 and would love to see you there, joining an incredible group of participants already signed up. I will also continue my 1 on 1 classes.

Thank you from the bottom of my heart for your continued support, your trust, and for allowing me to get to know each of you. It has truly been an honor.

Regarding studio classes:
Classes will run as per schedule until the 19th December. We have the last restorative yoga workshop scheduled for the 23rd of November.

Our final session will be a Candlelight Restorative yoga class at 7pm on the closing day, and I would be delighted to share that special moment with you. 🙂

With all my gratitude, warmth, and love
Niki 🙏💚

DCU reached out and I am happy to share their newest reaserch initiative on postpartum sleep.

Sleep loss and postpartum fatigue are common challenges faced by new parents, often leading to physical and mental exhaustion. These issues are strongly linked to depression, anxiety, stress, poor mood, and less effective parenting behaviours. Despite their prevalence, sleep health is frequently neglected in postpartum care.

This study aims to address that gap by developing a parent-informed sleep education programme, shaped by insights gathered from interviews with parents about their experiences with sleep, fatigue, and wellbeing.

Researchers are currently seeking parents to participate in one-on-one online interviews and are requesting assistance in sharing the recruitment poster through social media or newsletters to support participant recruitment.

If you'd like to take part, please contact shannon.spence@dcu.ie.

Did you know Bali is home to a rescue centre for elephants who were once used in logging and tourism?

Many of them were taken from Sumatra, and here, they finally get to rest.

When we visited, we didn’t just feed them, watched them and felt with them.

Moments like this remind us why we return to Bali: to feel part of something greater than ourselves. 🐘💛

Ulun Danu Beratan is built on the edge of a crater lake, surrounded by mountains and morning mist. It feels like a dream if you get there early enough. Before the tourist buses and the noise.

There’s a silence here that fills you. It’s one of the few places we don’t try to describe too much during the BaliBreatheaway. We just say: Go early. Take it in. Let it stay with you.

FunFactFriday 💭

Did you know? - An order of birth is the basis for many Balinese names. Therefore, it is quite probable that the firstborn child of one family will share a name with the firstborn child of another family.
Gede, Putu, or Wayan - firstborn
Nengah, Kadek, and Made - secondborn.
Komang, Nyoman - third born
Ketut is the fourth child.
Thus, Wayan, Putu, or Gede might potentially be the names of the fifth kid.

Another fun fact, that Balinese people do not name their child until it reaches the age of 3 months. On the day! And on that day, they celebrate with a very intimate naming ceremony. During our stay in Bali this year, we got the privilege to attend a naming ceremony, dressed in Balinese traditional clothing, called a sarung.

In Bali, you don't have to go to the market to get fresh fruit - just take a walk. My personal favourite is fresh coconut 🥥, which you can get almost anywhere - admittedly, it's cheaper in some places and more expensive in others, but the taste is heavenly! Lychees are rarer, a real treasure, but once I come across them, I can't say no. Mangoes 🥭 and melons 🍉 are available almost everywhere, both perfect on the beach after a hot day. And best of all, in many places you can get them on a tray, mixed with passion fruit, pineapple, and dragon fruit.

And if you walk in the right place, you'll suddenly see a coffee bush by the roadside. At first, you won't recognise it: small red fruits on a bush. But once you know what you're looking at, you'll immediately realise. Because it's not every day you see something that elsewhere is only used for your morning caffeine fix.

What is rare, expensive, and imported from far away for us is simply part of life here. And that's the beauty of it.

It reminds us that what is a luxury for us is part of life elsewhere. And vice versa.

BaliBreatheaway offers you the opportunity to start noticing these small, easily overlooked wonders again. Even if it's just for the power of a single fresh coconut.

At Balinese temples - including Besakih, the mother temple - you may sometimes witness something extraordinary without expecting it.

People were walking in long, flowing lines, dressed in white and gold. Some music echoed through the air, and they balanced tall offerings on their heads with quiet grace.
I didn’t understand what was happening - but I could feel that it mattered. Not to me, but to them. And that made it even more powerful.

Later, I learned it was Melasti - a purification ceremony that takes place before the Balinese New Year. It’s a day of cleansing the soul. Not externally, but inwardly.

And I happened to be there, just watching, quietly, gratefully, with respect.

It’s one of the reasons I believe that BaliBreatheaway is more than just a yoga camp. It’s a space to pay attention not only to yourself, but to where you’ve arrived.

Hello August and the first FunFactFriday 💭 of the month! 🙂

Did you know? - Bali is among 17,508 islands in the Indonesian Archipelago. It’s neighbours – Java and Lombok – are much bigger in size. And while Bali is quite tiny, it is far from being the smallest island in Indonesia. If you’re looking for a tiny island to escape to, I recommend Gili Trawangan.
