29/04/2020

Women's experiences of breastfeeding support at prenatal, delivery, immediately post natal, and in the community is contained in the survey so the data is really crucial to get to make sure the government knows the situation on the ground for women who want to breastfeed. Please submit your survey before the closing date tomorrow.

If you received a survey by post, we would like to hear about the maternity care you received before the survey closes on Thursday, 30 April. It is important that each voice is heard so that improvements can be made.
Almost 70 women have taken the time to complete the survey online, but haven’t clicked the ‘Submit’ button. Please make sure to check that you have pressed ‘Submit’, as we can only report on these experiences.

Friends of Breastfeeding would like to advise that following statements from the National Public Emergency Team and HSE guidelines we have unfortunately decided to postpone our group meet ups until guidance regarding Covid-19 would allow otherwise.

We understand how important our groups are to mothers however the welfare of our attendees, volunteers and our communities must be our first priority. If you would still like support that doesn’t go against social distancing advice we are still here for you and details will be listed below.

We will continually review the situation. Please follow the page here any updates.

For the latest information on Covid - 19 please use sources such as www.hse.ie or www.gov.ie .

The HSE’s official guidance on pregnancy and breastfeeding during the Covid-19 outbreak is available here: https://www.hpsc.ie/a-z/respiratory/coronavirus/novelcoronavirus/guidance/pregnancypostpartumguidance/Guidance%20for%20management%20of%20suspected%20COVID19%20in%20pregnant%20and%20post%20partum%20period%20V1.pdf?fbclid=IwAR0847GRAsvvNbgVjlO31iCO4-F6m9yDJz0Q-4I2kdMGNVCuMWpBkBFxLug

Breastfeeding is so important to your child’s immune system and there is no requirement to stop due to the virus.

For support outside of group meet ups we’d recommend the following:

1. Our Breastfeeding Buddies are local peer supporters that we pair with mums in their community which can still go ahead at this time by phone, text or email support. To sign up go to http://www.friendsofbreastfeeding.ie/breastfeeding-friendly-initiative/breastfeeding-buddy-system/
2. Cuidiu Breastfeeding Counsellors phone support details https://www.cuidiu.ie/supports_breastfeeding_counsellors
