When I gave birth to Ciara, my oldest, it was a really traumatic experience — not just during the birth itself, but for months afterwards. Physically and mentally, I was left in pieces. At the time, I was so focused on surviving my own recovery that I didn’t even think about what the experience might have been like for her.
It’s only now, through my work, that I truly realise birth can be traumatic for the baby too. When I work with children, I can often feel their birth story in their body. Sometimes I can sense how scared they were. If the birth was chaotic — doctors rushing, bright lights, raised voices — they can carry that stressful energy with them. And it can show up later in life as anxiety, fear, or difficulty feeling safe.
Looking back, I can only imagine how overwhelming Ciara’s first moments must have been. It makes me even more passionate about helping release those early imprints, so both children and parents can find more calm, safety, and connection.
