ESCAPE THE CYCLE OF CATASTROPHIC THINKING

Catastrophic thinking can be defined as ruminating about irrational worst-case outcomes.

It can increase anxiety and prevent people from taking action in a situation where action is required.

When you have a thought that sends you spiralling, put that thought on trial.

Don’t just believe any thought that comes into your mind.

Your attention, emotions, and allegiance are valuable real estate and not just any old thought is welcome there.

Determine for yourself if the thought is worth your time and attention.

To convince yourself, you need to engage in forceful dialogue with yourself and talk back to your irrational self-talk.

Vigorously debate with yourself, argue silently or aloud and question and challenge your irrational beliefs.
