We had the absolute pleasure of hosting the Green-Schools Committee from Blennerville National School here at Scotia Village!

After being blown away by the amount of plastic Blennerville students collected, it was a true privilege to help the Green-Schools Committee turn that recycled haul into handcrafted bracelets. Watching them transform waste into something they can wear home was the ultimate reward! ♻️✨

Last week, we welcomed 2nd Year MTU REEDi students who are collaborating with Inspired’s Scotia Village Project to design innovative solutions that address waste plastic in our marine, and beach environments. The focus of this partnership is to develop practical, inclusive designs that will enable people with intellectual disabilities to repurpose waste ocean plastic into functional architectural features for coastal spaces. By combining engineering, sustainability, and inclusive design, the students are creating solutions that support circular economy principles while empowering participants to lead climate action within their own communities.

We showed up, gloved up, and gave it everything today. 🥊
Laughing, swinging, missing a few punches, and still having the best time doing it together.

Inspired participants, together with community volunteers, recently took part in B4C, a creative and collaborative sustainability initiative. Through community conversations, LEGO® Serious Play® workshops, and the development of a shared ideas booklet, participants explored local priorities and transformed them into practical actions for a more sustainable future. STEAM Powered Action for Sustainable Futures is a community project led by REEdI at Munster Technological University , in partnership with , and funded by Research Ireland .

The initiative supports local communities and not-for-profit groups to explore sustainability challenges in a creative, hands-on way using STEAM approaches, combining science, technology, engineering, arts, and maths to drive real change. Huge thanks to the participants, volunteers, students, and staff who made such valuable contributions in the workshop, special thanks to Sarah Flaherty
REEdI Project Manager, MTU for facilitating the sessions.

Our Story at Inspired Tralee

Inspired is a community project collaborating with young adults with learning disabilities in the areas of education, employment and social participation.

At Inspired, we focus on ability. We are a unique community project where the participants who have ownership over the direction we take. It is the participants who decide what classes and activities they want to pursue, and we then organise qualified tutors to deliver them. Our current timetable includes personal development, life skills, cooking, drama, Zumba, yoga, photography, art, jewellery making, music and dance. Participants have regular meetings to discuss new ideas, which we are always open to.

Inspired is a registered charity and for several years was entirely self-funded through fundraising, thanks to the generosity of the local community. While we are still reliant on donations to meet some of our costs, in July 2018 Inspired secured funding through the Pobal Ability Programme. This has facilitated a major expansion of the project, taking us from a three days per week operation run entirely by volunteers, to opening five days per week with four paid staff. All at Inspired are grateful to our donors and funders for their support as we continue to grow the project.
