On January 23rd, Dr. Haytham Makki, Consultant General and Interventional Cardiologist at Bon Secours Hospital Tralee, joined the wonderful group from Active Retirement Killarney for an informative talk.💓 Key topics discussed were silent heart attacks, strokes, and valvular heart disease, followed by a valuable Q&A.

As part of our Foundation Day Celebrations, we held a Liturgy in the Hospital Chapel to celebrate and honour 79 of our valued colleagues who received their Long Service Awards this year. Between them they have given over 1,260 years of valued service in our hospital community.

This is a special occasion every year in the life of our hospital community and is an important component of our overall employee recognition programme, which is designed to provide an opportunity for us, as a hospital community, to celebrate colleagues who have reached significant service anniversaries. These Awards also provide us with an opportunity to say “Thank You” to our colleagues for their valued service and loyalty to our hospital.

During the Liturgy we gave thanks for the valued work and commitment of all our colleagues, for their dedicated service and compassionate care in our hospital, and for making our Mission, our Vision, and our Values tangible every day. During this ceremony we presented Awardees with specially commissioned Bon Secours Pins. Each of our longest serving awardees received a Bouquet of Flowers during the Ceremony to mark their significant length of service.

After the Liturgy, there were light refreshments in our Hospital Restaurant.

We’re delighted to welcome guest speaker, former Senior Kerry footballer Darragh Roche of RocheFit gym, who will tell his own story of having had a heart attack at 29 years of age.

Dr Rosemary Kelliher & Dr Danielle O’ Leary of GP Care Killarney will also be present on the night, to answer any questions or concerns you may have to discuss your heart health.

This is a very special night for all men, and for those who care about them. ALL are WELCOME!

Key Responsibilities:

✅ Provide respiratory cover at weekends, including in HDU
✅ Work alongside multidisciplinary medical teams to create personalized treatment plans

What we’re looking for:
✅ CORU membership (required)
✅ Extensive experience in acute medical care, including respiratory, neurology, cardiology, and elderly care
✅ Desirable experience in HDU, vestibular rehabilitation, and lymphoedema management
✅ Post-graduate courses or CPD in relevant acute medical conditions (highly desirable)
✅ Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to collaborate in a multidisciplinary team
✅ Flexibility to cover weekend respiratory shifts
