Here is a poem I wrote last year for one of my drumming circles. It feels right to revisit it now, Elaine ###
The Unbinding
When the weight of the world clings to your shoulders,
Tightening its grip as brambles on tender skin,
Know that there is a wisdom in surrender,
A sacredness to the art of release.
Let go – not as one who discards,
But as a tree unburdening brittle leaves:
Each one a story carried on the air,
Given freely to the wind.
Feel the ache dissolve in the river’s current:
Waters don’t ask “Why do you hold on?”
Only “How does it feel to let go?”
Their flowing rhythm a hymn to renewal.
Unbind yourself from the ropes of old grief,
Those knots of fear you tied in younger days.
Loosen them gently with hands that know compassion -
For even these tangles once served a purpose.
And when the empty space arrives,
That vast, quiet clearing where all the noise once lived,
Do not fear this exhale – it is your own breath fanning the flames
Igniting the ember of renewal within you.
May you walk lighter upon the Earth now,
Free from the old roots that no longer serve you:
For in each release there is a blessing:
A soft promise of a new beginning
