PERIORAL DERMATITIS 💫
Something I see alot of clients suffer with this time of year and who often mistake it for acne or breakouts. It usually differs from normal breakouts as it stings/burns and does not heal with usual treatments for acne often making it worse.
A common yet frustrating skin condition that many people struggle with — myself included! Here are a few quick facts:
✨ What it is: A form of facial rash that usually appears around the mouth, nose and chin.
✨ Who it affects: Most common in women aged 20–45, but can affect anyone.
✨ When it flares: Often worsens in colder months or when skin barriers are compromised.
✨ Why it’s tricky: It can be stubborn, reactive and easily irritated by heavy skincare or topical steroids.
I’ve dealt with it for most of my adult life and have tried countless “cures.” What’s worked best for me is keeping things simple and soothing:
💧 Gentle cleanser
🧴 Pat dry — no rubbing
🌿 A light layer of Avène Cicalfate or La Roche-Posay Cicaplast during the day
🌙 A thicker layer of sulfur cream at night
It’s all about calming, protecting and supporting the skin barrier — consistency over complexity 🤍
