It happens to us all π§π
Whether you're out for a run, on the bus or the train or just out and about with your earbuds in - you might find yourself turning up the volume just to drown out the noisy world around you so you can better focus on your favourite tunes or podcasts!
But that comes with a risk... β οΈ
Here's what's happening inside your ears:
π Many earbuds can reach 100β110dB at max volume. Anything above 85dB for an extended period of time puts you at risk of hearing damage.
π The effect of exposing your ears to high levels of noise on a day-to-day basis adds up. The damage caused to the delicate hair cells inside your ears cannot be reversed.
π§ The sounds of the world around you can mask just how loud your devices are!
How to keep your ears safe without giving up your audio:
β
Follow the 60/60 Rule, listen at 60% volume for no more than 60 minutes at a time.
β
Pay attention to the volume levels you're listening at and lower the volume if you think you need it!
β
Over the ear headphones are preferable to earbuds for both avoiding putting devices into your ears directly and allowing you to hear more clearly at lower volumes
β
If you notice any issues with your hearing: muffled sounds, ringing in your ears - that's a sign you need to take action.
