A simple breakfast contains so much of my life.
Bread by Cian , sourdough with the perfect consistency baked fresh onsite daily. A friend in my community.
Olive oil from Gozo, Malta. My Mum in law is Maltese, and we've formed a wonderful connection over the years with the little archipelago floating in the Mediterranean.
Sea salt also from Gozo. I've scooped salt out of the salt pans there myself, with my children.
An old plate that we found in an old ruin of a cottage, before it was re-built into a lovely modern country cottage that others now enjoy. It was a little adventure with the kids, climbing among the few rafters that were left there and discovering these forgotten treasures.
The placemat, a wedding gift for Tom  .beach.house and me when we were married 32+ years ago.
The cup, a gift to my daughter when she was small. She now lives halfway around the world, an electrical engineer and lover if life. Cheers!
The coffee - a luxury of roasted beans from too many air miles away. Sustainable? The milk from an Irish dairy farm - a hard slog. Thank you.
A collaboration of so many people, skills, knowledge, places, generations, love, Earth, sun, rain, life, the universe, deep time... all here on my plate for a few moments to nourish and sustain me.

I've been noticing how people are moving through this season with a sense of overwhelm, or under-whelm. Restlessness. A yearning for a change; for change.
The spirit of our Valentine's Zen Garden Retreat is to pay attention. To the rhythm of your breath and movement. To feel unhurried.
If this resonates, get in touch. It's just a week to our next retreat. Last couple of places remaining.

a mindful, heart-full retreat

pause and be still 🧘‍♀️
nourish body and mind 🥗
replenish your joy! 🩷

This Valentines weekend retreat takes a broad view of love and compassion.

Let the beautiful natural setting embrace you heart and mind. Reconnect to your heart's desires.

What does that even mean? It's simple. The house is so warm and inviting; its natural honey hues and spaciousness helps you feel quieter just by being there.
The gorgeous gardens invite you out, to sit and simply gaze at the sea and sky. The house is situated so that the sun rise over the sea and sunset over the hills is visible from the wrap-around patio.
The food is so nourishing, hitting all the right notes offered by fresh Mediterranean produce. Food is our daily connection to nature, we literally eat what the Earth gives us, so preparing food with love is an important aspect of caring for our hearts and souls.
The programme is light yest meaningful, offering a chance to re-connect to our breath, bodies, ancestors, and nature. And giving you time to journal, or play, or read, or... do more nothing.
Evening meditations and reflections help new ideas and perspectives land, where they can germinate.
Treat your ❤️ to this enriching .

Upon joining us, Mikey had this to say “I am very excited to take on this role as the new Artistic Director & CEO and to continue the extraordinary story of ‘Éigse Carlow Arts Festival’ taking it into its 47th year and beyond. There have of course been so many dedicated individuals over its 40+ years and I thank them for all the hard work done to date. I cannot wait to get started with the talented and dedicated team here and all our local, national and international funders and partners who year on year make the festival what it is.”

Mikey is an international performing artist, theatre maker, producer, and festival director with 30 years experience working across bold, site-specific projects at major arts festivals throughout the UK, Europe, Canada, Australia, New Zealand, and the Pacific. His career spans senior leadership roles at Wi******er Hat Fair, , Norfolk & Norwich Arts Festival, and Freedom Festival Hull, where he served as CEO and Artistic Director, building an ambitious year-round arts organisation and leading major international collaborations. I found this card among my papers over Christmas. A beautiful note from a student saying how she’s loved the 10 years of yoga with me. That was about 10 years ago. She’s joining me again in Tullow this January. I value this journey so much because of people like this, who benefit from what I can share from this rich practice called .

And onwards we go. Yoga classes start next week, Tuesday in Tullow (“improvers”) and Thursday in Carlow (“beginner-friendly”), both at 7pm.

I’m well aware of the chaos in our world, and learning self-awareness, practising peacefulness, and being in a group where we learn to and find that still point is more valuable than ever.

We are also continuing our journey on 12-15 February, a chance to change scene completely and reflect deeply on . Join us in , Malta for an enriching (and healthy) break.

Last night's full moon in a cloudy sky.
During the full moon, our energy moves the top of the head to one of the 16 Adharas, the Brahmarandhradhara. It's a good time for meditative activity. And though you may feel energetic, the energy can be a bit OTT, causing you to overdo. Some schools advocate not practising on the full moon for that reason. But I've been taught that a considered, softer practice is worthy.
Another consideration is that some women might be in their menstrual cycle at this time. The best thing to do during menstruation is less. You're already losing energy, so restorative approaches to postures is recommended.
Two excellent postures during menstruation - especially the first 3 or 4 days when the flow is heavy - are supported Supta Baddakonasana/Bhadrasana (lying back with soles of feet together) and a well supported Upa Vista Konasana (wide-legged forward fold). There's more detail in Emma Balnaves' Yoga For Women guide, available on the website.
