Addiction poem
You know who I am, youāve called me your friend, Wishes of misery and heartache I send, I want only to see that youāre brought to your knees, Iām the devil inside you, I am your disease.
Iāll invade all your thoughts, Iāll take hostage of your soul, Iāll become your new master, in total control. Iāll maim your emotions, Iāll run the whole game, Till your entire existence is crippled with shame.
When you call me I come, sometimes in disguise, Quite often Iāll take you by total surprise. But take you I will, and just as youāve feared Iāll want only to hurt you, with no mercy spared.
If you have your own family, Iāll see itās destroyed, Iāll steal every pleasure in life youāve enjoyed. Iāll not only hurt you, Iāll kill if I please, Iām your worse living nightmare.
I am your disease.
I bring self destruction, but still you canāt tell, Iāll sweep you through heaven, then drop you in hell, Iāll chase you forever wherever you go, And then when I catch you, you wonāt even know.
Iāll sometimes lay silent, just waiting to strike, Whatās yours becomes mine, coz I take what I like, Iāll take all you own and I wonāt care who sees, Iām your constant companionā¦. I am your disease.
If you have any honour, Iāll strip it away, Youāll lose all your hope and forget how to pray, Iāll leave you in darkness, while blindly you stare, Iāll reduce you to nothing and wonāt even care.
So donāt take for granted my powers sublime, Iāll bend and Iāll break you, time after time. Iāll crumble your world with the greatest of ease, Iām that madman inside youā¦.
I am your disease.
But today Iām real angryā¦. you want to know why? I let this whole room of addicts slip by, How did I lose you? Where did I go wrong? One minute I had you, then next you were gone.
You just canāt dismiss all the good times weāve shared, When you were aloneā¦ wasnāt it I who appeared? When you sold those possessions you knew you would need, Wasnāt I the first one who stepped in and agreed?
Now look at you bastards, youāre thinking clear, You escaped with your lives when you found your way here. Only fools think theyāre winners when admitting defeat, Itās what you must say when youāre claiming that seat.
So go ahead and surrender, if thatās what you choose, But Iām not giving up cos I canāt stand to lose. So go to your meetings and pray hand in hand, for God to come save youā¦. leaving me to be damned.
Well be damned all your meetings each night of the week, Be damned Higher Powers, however unique, Be damned all your sayings, be damned your cliches, Be damned every addict who back to me strays.
For I know it will happen, Iāve seen it before, Those who love misery will crawl back for more. So take comfort in knowing, Iām waiting right here, But next time around, youād better beware.

You think that youāre stronger or smarter this time, There isnāt a mountain or hill you canāt climb. Well if thatās what youāre thinking you aināt learned a thing, Iāll still knock you silly if you step back in my ring.
But you say youāve surrendered so what can I do. Itās so sad in a way, I had big plans for you. Creating your nightmare for me was a dream, Iām sure gonna miss you, we made quite a team.
So please donāt forget me, I wonāt forget you, Iāll stand by your side watching all that you do, Iām ready and waiting, so call if you please, I wonāt let you forget meā¦
