Our dedicated have been busy supporting the community across a range of duties recently.

Our have carried out numerous patient transports in recent days while another crew headed to the 3Arena last night for a concert.

This evening members headed to a Parents First Aid Talk where our delivered an informative talk for parents, sharing practical first aid advice and helping build confidence to respond in an emergency.

A big thank you to all our volunteers for their time, dedication, and professionalism!

A massive congratulations to newly promoted

Cpl. James Gardner
Cpl. David Kavanagh
Cpl. Adam Kavanagh

These all received the rank of Corporal in recognition of their service within the Cadet Unit over the last number of years.

All three of our newly promoted began their journey as Cadets themselves, taking their very first steps into the Order of Malta Wexford Unit at a young age.

Over the years, each of them has generously given back their time — going on duty, responding when needed, supporting their Unit behind the scenes, and mentoring the next generation of Cadets following in their footsteps.

Their progression from Cadets to newly promoted volunteers is a testament to their perseverance, loyalty, and belief in serving others.

Their journey reflects the strength of our organisation -young people growing through guidance and opportunity, and in turn becoming leaders who continue the cycle of service.

We are incredibly proud of all three and we are grateful for the time, energy, and dedication they continue to give to our community.

Congratulations Cpl. James Gardner, Cpl. David Kavanagh and Cpl. Adam Kavanagh 🎊

A very important night for the Wexford Unit as our Officer in Charge hosted our Unit Annual General Meeting.

This gave us the opportunity to reflect on the operations of the Unit during 2025, and look at the Operational Plan for 2026.

It was also a time for celebration, as our Volunteer of the Year Award was presented. This year, the “Oliver and Peggy Sinnott Award for Excellence” was awarded to Vol. Norman McCann.

Norman dedicates an immense amount of his time to the Unit, which is consistently evident through the hours he spends maintaining the ambulance fleet, carrying out his duties, and tirelessly working behind the scenes.

Thank you to everyone who supported our Unit throughout what was an exceptionally busy 2025.

Sincere thanks to our dedicated Volunteers who give their time so generously to help those in need. We are equally grateful to their families, who patiently support them and often see their loved ones spend long hours — and sometimes days — away on duty.

A special word of appreciation to our Community First Responders — Order of Malta Volunteers who are activated by the National Ambulance Service to attend life-threatening emergencies within the community. These Volunteers remain on call 24/7, demonstrating extraordinary commitment and selflessness.

We also extend our heartfelt thanks to our community for its continued encouragement and support, which enables us to provide vital care and assistance to those who need it most.

Congratulations to everyone in the Wexford Unit on another outstanding year, and special congratulations to Norman on receiving such a well-deserved and prestigious award.

A great piece by the Irish Independent 👏

Ever since he was a child, Wexford man Nathan O’Connor knew what he wanted to be. You could say that, since joining the Order of Malta as a cadet aged 13, most of his decisions in life have been taken with one goal in mind - to become a paramedic with the National Ambulance Service.

Now aged 31, not only has Nathan finally realised his long-held dream, but it’s playing out in front of the eyes of the whole country on Virgin Media TV, as he plays a starring role in First Timers on the Frontline – a new four-part documentary series which provides an insight into the working life of a newly qualified paramedic.

It saw Nathan deal with a 13 year-old boy who had slipped and suffered a nasty leg break.

"It was such a simple thing that happened to him and it’s an injury that would be traumatic for an adult, never mind a child. I've only broken my wrist and my nose a few times, I can only imagine the pain that he was going through.”

It led to Nathan performing his first real-world traction splint, something he had never done outside of a college classroom, all with the added pressure of the cameras.

Being a father of two young children, the calls involving children are the ones that Nathan finds the most difficult.

"You’re dealing with kids that are the same age as your own kids, and you just think ‘Jesus, how lucky am I that my kids are safe at home’. But then the other side of it is that it could be any of our kids tomorrow. Anything can happen.

"One of my colleagues had a great expression – ‘it's not my sadness’. That's something that struck home with me. What happens in work sometimes is sad, but if I took that home, I’d never sleep. I'd never be able to have fun with the kids."

First Timers on the Frontline continues Wednesday, February 25 at 9 p.m. on Virgin Media PLAY and Virgin Media One

The Automated External Defibrillator on South Main Street (Y35 TW61) was used last night at a Medical Emergency.

Our Responders were on scene, along side the National Ambulance Service. The AED has been replaced, making it Rescue Ready.

Our thoughts and prayers go out to the Patient and their Family at this time.

🌟Tonight, Virgin Media one, 9pm🌟

Vol. Nathan O’Connor will be appearing in a brand-new documentary showcasing the vital work of the National Ambulance Service, offering a behind-the-scenes look at life on the frontline as a newly qualified paramedic.

Nathan began his journey back in 2007, joining as a cadet with Order of Malta Ireland Ambulance Corps Wexford Unit and taking his very first steps into emergency care.

Throughout his years of volunteering, his passion for helping others continued to grow, shaping his skills, dedication, and love for the ambulance service. That passion went on to guide his career path, culminating in his qualification as a paramedic.

This documentary not only highlights the demanding and rewarding work of ambulance crews, but also shows how volunteering can inspire lifelong careers in lifesaving service.
