What is Amatsu?
Amatsu is a soft tissue, movement based physical therapy based on ancient principles of natural movement, which aims to restore balance to the body. It can be applied to treat many different conditions. Amatsu aims to restore balance to the whole of the body and not simply address the symptoms.
How does it work?
Therapists restore this balance by mobilising the soft tissue, which is made up of ligaments, tendons, muscles, fascia and organs, and using gentle pressure.
It aims to restore balance and help to address physical, emotional, chemical and environmental stresses which impact on everyday life. These are known as the โ big 5 โ and underpin the philosophy of amatsu. The understanding that everything is connected and thus needs to be addressed in order to treat the whole person.
The Therapy?
It can last between 30-60 minutes depending on the issues presenting. It is usually carried out fully clothed .The therapist will ask you to remove your belt and shoes usually. A full medical history is taken and any contraindications to treatment will require GP consent to treat. The initial treatment will be the longest as history and treatment is taken during this. The therapist will carry out a range of tests and treatments pertaining to the source of the injury. The number of sessions required will depend on the presentation. For example, one person may feel changes straight away and it may take other people longer for health to be restored. During the treatments, the therapist will encourage the client to become aware of their own health and read their bodies signals. Once balance is restored, many people continue to return monthly for a treatment to maintain this, as a preventative measure. This is entirely up to the person.
Amatsu treatments are very gentle and non-invasive. Thus, they are suitable for people of any age from the very young to the older person.
What is pain :
Pain is caused because of an injury. However, it is not always an indication of where the injury is. Thus, the treatment may appear to be away from the point where pain is experienced. This is because the body will direct the therapist to the cause of the injury and due to the body being connected physically an injury experienced elsewhere can cause the physical presentation in another part of the body, which is responding to the pull and neurological dissonance experienced.
Benefits of treatment:

After the treatment:
By working on the whole body homeostasis is maintained or returned. Depending on the severity or nature of the presently problem, some clients feel the benefit straight away. Others will feel a benefit after a few sessions. Some clients feel energised after a treatment, others feel tired. There may be achiness experienced due to structural changes made during the treatment and therefore it is advised to take gentle exercise in the initial 24-48 hours post treatment.
After a session the general advise would be to rest up and drink plenty of fluids in the 24- 48 hour period post treatment.
