The Aryuveda clinic is like a kibbutz - we meet and socialize at meal times. You meet people from so many different countries. The fun thing is you usually don’t talk about your work, that we all left behind. We start by swapping treatment stories. It’s not polite to open with “what are you in for?”, that can make newbies understandably nervous…so we glide into the conversation by talking about the treatments. The one thing that I have noticed is that although you are being touched more or less everywhere, and the body in its infinite wisdom starts to unwind…emotions come up, sometimes like a storm, and there is no one to process it with. Rachel and I have each other, and we are both mind/body therapists, so we feel held. But the others? Much less so. Everyone has shared that this is their experience. This is why we plan to lead a retreat here, in the summer of 2026. We will bring a group of women who are committed to their health, which includes an emotional cleansing, and making room for joy, balance, and peace . It’s an opportunity to do the work it takes to clear away whatever is blocking you - In India, with Aryuveda!

Looking back at past years’ Doula courses with lots of love. I was listening to an interview with Deepak Chopra and he said something that really struck me. He said that when you look at all the significant and positive emotions, like compassion, joy, love…the most powerful and profound one to experience is AWE. This is what we feel when seeing a beautiful sunset, this is what we feel when witnessing a birth. This is what makes doulas excited to keep going to births, no matter how tired we may feel or how inconvenient it may seem- we go, we show up, we want to be in the presence of Awe. Where do you experience it???

In last nights meeting of the childbirth preparation class a woman approached me at the end and told me that her sister had taken my class 12 years ago! She now has 4 kids. She raised them all in a concept that she got from the course. It’s called the Next Best Thing. If what you wanted or hoped for in your birth is not feasible for what ever reason, you can choose the next best thing. This allows you to stay connected to yourself and your birth. You wanted a natural birth but 28 hours in you feel the next best thing may be an epidural… you hoped to avoid a csec but the baby is in distress and the next best thing is to give birth now with a csec…you hoped for that epidural but your birth was moving forward quickly so the next best thing is to find your inner grit, let go of the epidural plan and push!
It excited me enormously to hear that this was passed on to the next generation! Do you want to make a difference, one woman at a time? Being a doula gives you that opportunity. And to say it’s fulfilling is an understatement. There’s still time to sign up for next year’s doula training program!
