A birth prep marathon? How does it look like?

Imagine arriving in the morning and meeting other expecting parents in a warm, welcoming space where you instantly feel safe and at ease.

The day starts, and alongside the standard birth prep topics — what birth looks like, when to go to the hospital, and breathing techniques — you go much deeper.

You get unbiased information about the maternity care system and birth options in Israel and Jerusalem, from someone who actually supports births and knows what it’s like here.

You practice hands-on tools based on knowledge of biomechanics, such as position, releases and movement— for you and for your partner to support you.

You also address the emotional side of birth: exploring fears without judgment, learning real relaxation tools from hypnobirthing that support the hormones of birth.

And last but not least, you start thinking about postpartum — a phase so often overlooked.

At the end of the day, you will leave not only with a comprehensive booklet and knowledge base but also with techniques and tools for body and mind you can continue using at home, during birth, and in early parenthood — feeling confident and even excited about the birth ahead.

📅 Next courses:
Thursday, 11 September 2025 – Jerusalem
Thursday, 25 December 2025 – Jerusalem

💰 Reimbursement: 450 NIS from Hadassah or Shaarei Zedek, or 75% from Kupot Cholim.

Part of the challenge that can follow a birth is allowing yourself to legitimize the experience and make space for all the emotions that come with it.

During times of war—when there is grief, loss, and fear all around—it can feel even harder to take the time to process your birth experience.

In the past months, I’ve heard the sentence “all that matters is a healthy baby and a healthy mother” several times during births—usually from kind and well-meaning midwives or doctors, trying to reassure women or convince them to agree to medical interventions.
But even when said with the best intentions, this sentence can unintentionally dismiss a woman’s instincts, doubts, or discomfort—and silence the personal experiences.

And when something from the birth stays with you—whether it feels "big" or "small," whether it was a dramatic event or a quiet, inner moment that no one else noticed—it deserves space.
You deserve space.
To meet the experience in a supportive setting, to give your feelings language and validation.
That’s exactly what we do together in a birth processing session.

So what is birth processing, really?
It’s a one-on-one session where we sit together with your birth story—or just part of it—and gently explore what comes up.
Birth processing is an opportunity to express whatever is still with you from the birth, whatever hasn’t yet had a chance to be seen or heard.

You’re welcome to reach out if you’d like to understand more about what that might look like.

In the intensity of the past days, I had almost forgotten—
Right after October 7th, I created a free course with practical tools to support expecting and new parents in times of crisis.
Given what we’re all going through again now, I believe it might be helpful for many of you.
You’re very welcome to use it or share it with anyone who might need extra support right now.
Here’s the link:

The 7th of October changed our lives. The impact of such a traumatic event and ongoing war leaves no one untouched. When pregnancy and early postpartum become intertwined, the experience can become even more complex and overwhelming. In response to this unique challenge, I've created a course design...

PROTECTED SPACES IN THE MATERNITY WARDS IN JERUSALEM

The hospitals are currently operating on an emergency-only basis — but births continue, as they always do. There are protected spaces in all the maternity wards in Jerusalem. Stay safe 💜

Please let me know when you know about changes, so I can update the post.

News are saying that hospitals will release women already after 12 hours - I will let you know when I know more about this.

---

MOUNT SCOPUS (HAR HATZOFIM)

• The delivery ward has 4 protected rooms and 6 unprotected ones.
• There’s one protected room where everyone who isn’t already in a protected birth room goes. If it gets full, people may go into the protected birth rooms, even if someone is giving birth there (they try to give people who are in active labor a protected room). They do their best to keep things private using curtains.
• Admission only in very active labor if somehow possible.
• Early discharge is being encouraged.
• Inductions are sent to Ein Kerem
• After birth, women are moved to a protected area—a long hallway with curtains between beds and light both day and night. Babies stay with their mothers at all times.

---

EIN KEREM

• The labor and delivery floor is underground, and all rooms are protected.
• Maternity Ward A and B – move to the hallways.
• Maternity Ward D – goes up to the 4th floor if there’s advance notice; otherwise, to the nearest protected area.
• Maternity Ward C – was reopened due to a bed shortage; in case of an alert, they go to the stairwells and elevator lobbies.
• There is a protected space next to the nursery. Only babies that need medical supervision or light therapy are there. All other babies are with their mother.
• The NICU has been moved to an underground protected facility.
• Water birth is still possible if not too busy.
• Tends to be very busy

---

SHAARE ZEDEK

• Moved to second floor.
• Women give birth in a hall, divided by curtains. The no support person rule was cancelled. One person is allowed to be next to the woman.

---

ST. JOSEPH

• When entering from the prenatal area, you go through automatic doors followed by shelter doors (mamad) — the entire birth department is protected.
• All labor rooms are in protected spaces.
• There are additional protected areas on each floor.
• Water birth possible

When you arrive at the hospital for birth, you don’t go straight to the delivery room. The first step is to go to the miun meyalduti (maternity triage) for an initial assessment.

The standard checks typically include:
- A 20-minute monitor (or longer) to track contractions and the baby’s heartbeat.
- IV placement (though some hospitals are more flexible, especially if you wish for a physiological birth).
- A vaginal examination to assess the cervix—its softness, position, effacement, and dilation. Your consent is required for this!
- A review of your medical and pregnancy history.

It’s helpful to prepare your partner to answer medical history questions so that you, as the birthing mother, can stay focused on labor with fewer distractions in an already intense environment.
