Let's say someone has a genetic predisposition, it doesn't have to activate. Activation is variable.

Therefore it seems "internal cause" is susceptibility and "external cause" is , pathogen, poisoning, stress, toxins, lifestyle issues, malnutrition and whatever else ...

Most of these ideas of potency selection are bypassed by using Hahnemann's methods of water dosing with succussions only when needed.

This might not be practical.

We MUST treat the whole person and not palliate symptoms as requested. Everyone's healing timeline is different.

Boenninghousen advised daily reports from patients:

The people who live far away need to give a daily written report
(Text or email works too)

In that written report should underline once all old returning symptoms.

And underline twice any new symptoms never felt before.

Returning symptoms show us the antipsoric is acting well.

New symptoms if they are bothersome or frequent show us that the medicine is not quite homeopathic to the case and should be interrupted and a new medicine selected.

Another option is to request something like this:

What symptoms are gone ?

What symptoms are better ?

What symptoms are worse ?

What symptoms are new ?

Both Aphorisms 5 and 6 are essential, yet they have different purposes.
We can not know what has changed (Aphorism 6), if we don’t know what was before (Aphorism 5).

We can't analyze changes which have occurred during the illness if we don’t qualify whether there is an exciting cause, a maintaining cause, a miasmatic origin (or something that is harming health and can be removed ) as described in Aphorism 4 if we don’t do the investigation into the patient as explained in Aphorism 5.

This is why I say to etch both aphorisms 5 and 6 in your soul.

Then we can select our symptoms according to § 154 !

Homeopathy makes the organism stronger and able to withstand and or remove exposure to pathogens and toxins. We all have "germs ". We are all exposed to toxins. They only sicken when there is an imbalance leading to susceptibility.
That is why deep treatment with antipsoric remedies is soooo helpful.
