ADI - Advancement of People with Disabilities & Rehabilitation for All
Major-General (Res.)
By reimagining rehabilitation, ADI is advancing ability for all - empowering children, adolescents and adults with severe disabilities and providing cutting edge therapeutic and recovery services for anyone touched by disability. By advancing ability, ADI empowers Israel’s most vulnerable individuals – children, adolescents and young adults with severe disabilities – to reach their greatest lifetime potentials. ADI is also reimagining rehabilitation, providing cutting edge therapeutic and recovery services to individuals needing inpatient and outpatient care following an accident or health event. ADI’s teams of professional staff and volunteers at ADI Jerusalem and ADI Negev-Nahalat Eran are pioneering and sharing new ways to transform the lives of individuals with disabilities and their families. ADI also advocates, educates and leads efforts nationally and globally on disability inclusion, disability equity and providing rehabilitative care with dignity and a focus on the future. The ADI Negev-Nahalat Eran rehabilitative village in Israel’s south and the ADI Jerusalem residential center comprise a continuum of loving care from infancy and childhood through adulthood, ensuring that residents with multiple disabilities and complex medical issues receive the medical and rehabilitative care and educational, vocational and social opportunities they need to reach their fullest potentials. At the same time, ADI Negev-Nahalat Eran, which offers a host of rehabilitative solutions for individuals from all backgrounds and levels of need, is undergoing radical growth to meet the country's rehabilitative needs. The Harvey & Gloria Kaylie Rehabilitation Medical Center at ADI Negev-Nahalat Eran, the first rehabilitative hospital in the Negev region, is a state-of-the-art rehabilitation, research and social center that will establish a model of community-based inclusive health services, increase the number of Israel’s rehabilitative hospital beds dramatically, bring quality care to the underserved residents of the south, and create more housing and jobs in the Negev, marking the beginning of a brand new era of medical and economic strength for the State of Israel. Doron Almog leads ADI as Chairman of the organization, Avi Wortzman serves as CEO of ADI Negev-Nahalat Eran, and Shlomit Grayevsky serves as CEO of ADI Jerusalem.
‘ADI’ (pronounced ah-dee) is the Hebrew word for a radiant and multifaceted jewel, a name that reflects our expansive vision and broad scope of activities, including disability care, rehabilitation, research, employment, education, community services and Tikkun Olam. It also speaks to the importance and great value of our mission to care for the most precious members of our society – those who cannot care for themselves.

🌍❤️♿️ Today, December 3, we mark the 𝗜𝗻𝘁𝗲𝗿𝗻𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻𝗮𝗹 𝗗𝗮𝘆 𝗼𝗳 𝗣𝗲𝗼𝗽𝗹𝗲 𝘄𝗶𝘁𝗵 𝗗𝗶𝘀𝗮𝗯𝗶𝗹𝗶𝘁𝗶𝗲𝘀 ( ). Every day at ADI, we educate the masses about the "Spectrum of Disability." As humans, we will all be touched by disability at some point during our lives. Whether we're born with a condition, have an accident, contract a disease or experience the great blessing of growing old, we will all face this reality head on. The key is to give and receive love and hope with grace, and always strive to be the kindest, most accepting and empathetic humans we can be. It is our responsibility as a society to highlight the reality of disability and ensure that every person receives the dignity, respect and opportunities they need to feel fulfilled and reach their greatest potentials. Don't let the day pass without making a statement about the need for true disability inclusion, equity and access in every community around the world. ♿️❤️🌍

When he received just 48 hours to return home and spend time with his family, he chose to spend two of them visiting with his "brother," Tal, a longtime resident of ADI Jerusalem. 💪🏻♿ IDAN IS A WALK STAR! ⭐ When Idan was born, his parents were told that, due to his physical and sensory disabilities, he would be a wheelchair user for life. Now 13 years old, Idan is a star student at ADI Negev-Nahalat Eran's special education school, where he learned to take control of his own mobility thanks to the patient instruction of his teachers and a specialized walker that is form-fitted to his body (donated by our friends from Jewish National Fund - USA). Earlier this year, after mastering the use of his special walker, Idan's educators helped him unlock even greater potential by teaching him how to ride an adapted tricycle. And then last week, the boy who others believed would always be pushed around in a wheelchair took his first steps using a standard walker! 🙌🏻 Yet another mind-blowing leap towards truly independent mobility. 🤯 With determination, personal attention and support, there is no limit to what Idan can accomplish. As you can see from his bright smile, Idan just loves walking all over that negative initial prognosis! 🤩

🧠🩼 AVIGAIL'S LONG ROAD TO RECOVERY: 🫂 One morning while on a family vacation abroad, 10 year-old Avigail Ravinsky failed to wake up for breakfast. Doctors at the local Emergency Room diagnosed her with a severe brain hemorrhage, and she was immediately transported home to Israel. Upon arrival, Avigail underwent numerous complex neurosurgical procedures that saved her life. Once the immediate medical crisis had passed, it became clear that Avigail faced a long and difficult rehabilitative journey. Avigail was admitted to the day-patient program at the Kaylie Rehabilitation Medical Center at ADI Negev–Nahalat Eran, where she worked with physical, occupational and speech therapists for 2.5 years to regain essential physical, cognitive and emotional functions At home, Avigail and every member of her family also received emotional and psychological support. These services played a critical role in rebuilding her confidence and supporting her overall recovery. Avigail’s progress has been nothing short of extraordinary, and she is now walking, speaking and performing daily tasks. Today, at age 13, Avigail has successfully completed her rehabilitation and is ready to return to school and resume a full and active life. We extend our heartfelt appreciation to Avigail and her family for entrusting us with her care and allowing us to become part of their beautiful family. It has been a privilege accompanying her on this long road to recovery, and we wish her continued success and health as she takes back her life! 🙏🏻❤️

ADI's North America Director of Advancement Elie Klein discussed our crucial mission and introduced the disability inclusion curriculum to the students, and Ramaz’s exceptional educators explained that their mentorship-based STEM innovation lab would once again be geared towards submitting the very best entries to ‘ADI’s Make the Change Challenge,’ our annual STEM Accessible Design Contest - keeping disability inclusion and Israel on the students' minds throughout the year. 🙌🏻🇮🇱 We are so grateful for Ramaz's wonderful partnership, and we can't wait to see what their stellar students come up with this year! Here’s to creating real disability awareness and promoting disability inclusion, equity and access around the world! ♿🌍

🤲🏼 THE VILLAGE OF ENDLESS OPPORTUNITY: 🤩 "My name is Sarah Ertel, and I had the pleasure and honor of working as a National Service Volunteer at ADI Negev-Nahalat Eran's Equine Therapy Stable over the last two years. During that time, I found that ADI Negev is a place of endless opportunity. The children and adults I assisted and worked with are individuals severely limited by their disabilities, or so the world would have you believe. At ADI Negev, they take care of each other, they grow and thrive via hydrotherapy, agricultural therapy, equine therapy, music therapy and so much more. They hold jobs in agriculture and landscaping, stablehand work and animal care. They are given opportunities to take responsibility, communicate, make art, and be seen as people, not as their disability. ADI Negev was my opportunity as well. In two years, I went from a fresh immigrant to a fluent Hebrew speaker with Israeli friends all over the country. I found a career path that fills me with meaning and gained valuable life skills and knowledge. I learned deep lessons in integrity, sacrifice and perspective. I turned what some might call a 'ruined service' due to the war into the greatest opportunity for success, fulfilment, connection and purpose that I could have hoped to find anywhere. ADI represents an opportunity for all of us - to strengthen our ties with Israel, experience true inclusion and embrace our shared humanity." 🫂 💚

🎨🖌 THE ART OF INCLUSION: Art is an important creative outlet for everyone, but for our ADI residents and special education students, painting, making a collage and working with clay or acrylic means so much more. By immersing themselves in interesting projects that incorporate bright colors, varied textures and structured social interaction, they are able to tap into their creative abilities, learn how to make important connections, explore new avenues of expression and build self-esteem. Employing various mediums and specially designed adaptive techniques and technologies, our ADI family members are able to draw out their inner artists and put their abilities and individuality on display. And their stunning handcrafted creations are sold online at 'The Ability Boutique by ADI' (https://adi-il.org/ability-boutique/), allowing thousands of people around the world to enjoy their creativity. ☕ BREWING A LEGACY OF INDEPENDENCE: 💪🏻♿ This week, ADI Jerusalem celebrated the grand opening of 'Ran’s Coffee Cart,' a congenial coffee corner lovingly operated by ADI residents to honor the memory of their late friend and fellow resident, Ran Zakuri. When the residents expressed a desire to create something unique to memorialize Ran, ADI's dedicated staff and volunteers jumped into action to turn that dream into a reality. The beautifully branded coffee cart will operate twice a week, providing the residents with an exciting opportunity to embrace their independence, do meaningful work and give back to their community. The kiosk includes adaptive technology that allows the residents to take and prepare orders by themselves, including a specially designed coffee machine that operates with the push of a single, easy-to-use button. Ran Zakuri z"l lived at ADI Jerusalem for nearly two decades and recently passed away surrounded by his ADI family. We believe that this empowering and life-affirming project is the perfect way to keep Ran's memory percolating for years to come. 🙏🏻❤️
